Clarity and quality
editThe terminology in this topic can be genuinely confusing, with the same words used for very different devices and different words used for the same device. It would be very helpful if this and related pages made clearer the differing terms used and their possible meanings. Please be careful to check multiple sources for example to see the differing ways 'photocell' gets used, sometimes referring to a vacuum photoelectric cell / phototube / photoemissive cell, but sometimes to solid state devices. Care and clarity would be appreciated as sources will not all agree!
Description of semiconductor devices as "photoelectric" whilst in a cited source is contrary to the way this term is usually used!

Proposed merger

Bad Form
editThis article does not have good form for its title. At present, the article lists a series of types of photodetectors, however, the article does not 1) explain what a photodetector is, 2) give the concepts behind a photodetector (general concenpts, anyways) in its operation, 3) give a brief history of the photodetector, and 4) provide some examples of applications of photodetectors. Unless these issues are resolved, I propose renaming the article to fit the current format: a list. 76.198.38.250 (talk) 01:34, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
"Ambient light sensor" redirects here
editSometimes the first two words are linked to Low-key lighting suach as in Samsung_Galaxy_Note_10.1_2014_Edition. I would like to link all there to a real page. Maybe it needs to be made. Is there any here (or any you know) that is pointed to that best describes it. comp.arch (talk) 16:31, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Section on applications
editThis article should have a section that goes over the various uses and applications of photodetectors such as in CD drives and wirephotos, etc. etc. -- Luke.wilson59 (talk) 22:14, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
