I don't get the GScholar citation count

edit

I seem to be missing something fundamental about Google Scholar. Why does a work by Maynard, Peters and Li, with no Vossen in the author list, show up at rank 8 for Vossen? If this is supposed to be an article citing Vossen: it's not, check the bibliography. QVVERTYVS (hm?) 20:20, 11 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Very astutely seen! I have no time right now, I'll look into it tomorrow, but this is indeed weird. I have seen this in GS searches, but not in profiles (where scholars are supposed to have weeded out false positives). --Randykitty (talk) 20:35, 11 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
    • I first saw this at position 40, but there are several more papers that don't have Vossen's name in them anywhere. I'm not sure if GScholar is a reliable source here, or anywhere for that matter (I just checked a few other random scientists and I see the same phenomenon, though less extreme). • Very weird. It already starts with the third article in his profile not being his... I have seen this in search results (i.e., when you enter a person's name in GS), but never in profiles, which are only created by an action of the person in question (and verified by an institutional email). Given this, I have removed the whole section on publications and citations until I have time to search for him in Web of Science (but as "Vossen" is a not uncommon Dutch name, that may be a bit more difficult). --Randykitty (talk) 12:40, 12 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
