I typed "Pidgeon" (Walter Pidgeon) and was redirected to this disambiguation page. There is, however, nothing to disambiguate: there is only one "Pidgeon" in Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.170.118.88 (talkcontribs)

What do you mean? Walter Pidgeon is #3 in the list on the page here. -WarthogDemon 18:37, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Why is "Pidgeon" in the list? His name is Pidgeon (with a "d"), not "pigeon" (the bird). And since there is only one "Pidgeon" in Wikipedia, there is no need for a disambiguation page (for "Pidgeon"). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.170.118.88 (talk) 19:21, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Because there aren't (or at least to me there doesn't appear to be) enough instances of the Pidgeon with a D.
There is only *one* "Pidgeon" so no disambiguation page is needed. "Pidgeon" should redirect to "<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Pidgeon>" and "pigeon" (bird, town, lieutenant) should redirect to a disambiguation page.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.170.118.88 (talkcontribs)
When that happens the lesser used spelling gets redirected to the more popular spelling. Nevertheless I'll add the mention of "Pidgeon" at the top of this page to help there be slightly less confusion. -WarthogDemon 19:27, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
The url is <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pidgeon> (with a "d") but the title is "Pigeon (disambiguation)" (without a "d"). And "pigeon" does not redirect to a disambiguation page. So someone looking for the town of Pigeon will be redirected to the page about the bird instead of being redirected to the disambiguation page. This is not very coherent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.170.118.88 (talkcontribs)
I informed them here. -WarthogDemon 20:14, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.170.118.88 (talk) 20:23, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
No prob. Thanks for spotting it. -WarthogDemon 20:25, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

IMO, Pidgeon should redirect to Walter Pidgeon. Walter Pidgeon could then have a hatnote

  • {{redirect|Pidgeon|the bird Pigeon|Columbidae}}
  • {{redirect|Pidgeon|the bird|Pigeon}}
  • {{distinguish|Pigeon}}

If the "primary topic" for Pidgeon is determined to be the misspelling of the bird's name, Pidgeon should redirect to Columbidae. But I do not think this is the case. -- JHunterJ 20:38, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why Walter Pidgeon? Why not one of the other Pidgeons we have on Wikipedia? Ewlyahoocom 22:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I took the comments above at face value. Pidgeon should be a {{surname}} page then, with a See Also to Pigeon (disambiguation). -- JHunterJ 23:35, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Why Walter Pidgeon? Because I only saw one Pidgeon before (there is only one on the disambiguation page). Anyway,
- "Pigeon" should redirect to <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigeon_(disambiguation)>,
- "Pidgeon" should redirect to <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pidgeon_(disambiguation)>. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.170.118.88 (talk) 01:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, Pigeon should stay where it is, since there is a primary topic. Pidgeon should be a surname list page (not a disambiguation page). Base names should not redirect to (disambiguation) pages, and lists of people with a common surname are not disambiguations because there is little possibility that any one of the entries would have been titled with solely the surname. -- JHunterJ 01:24, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
