Not a wine
editI undid the category change from Category:French liqueurs to Category:French wines because Pineau isn't a wine: its manufacture doesn't involve fermentation. Just fresh must blended with cognac.
The category "liqueurs" seems OK to me, because liqueurs are normally made by blending eau-de-vie with flavourings which may include fruit juices, and that covers Pineau. However, it's certainly not a typical liqueur, and I'm not swearing that "liqueurs" is the mot juste! Andrew Dalby 09:35, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
History
editThe date 1589 is widely circulated on the Internet (I see it frequently used on food and drink blogs and on the web pages of cognac manufacturers), but I am having difficulty finding what I would consider an authoritative reference. The Behrendts simply date the origin of pineau to the sixteenth century, which is probably safer. Bartleby62 (talk) 06:04, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
