Suggest Deletion of Extraneous Phrase

I propose the deletion of the following phrase from this article: "It is easy to understand why salt has always been so precious for mankind." It doesn't seem to fit where it is, and a simple reference to the article on salt somewhere in the article, at a maximum, would suffice. Where it sits the point isn't clear, and it also isn't needed. If there is no response to this suggestion within a few weeks, I'll go ahead and delete it.Jo7hs2 (talk) 01:16, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Agree. It reads like ad copy. In fact, the entire article may be drawn for ad copy. Can you figure out where this information came from? My guess is that this is a brand of commercially available salt. As such, a number of other brand-name salts (including one from Utah) are also pink. It doesn't seem proper to have an article about "pink salt" and only talk about the pink salt from a single region, yet not mention the others. Badagnani (talk) 01:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

It looks like it is based on ad copy from http://www.himalania.com/ . This company also sells "goji berries" (i.e., wolfberries) that are purported to be from the Himalayas; investigative reporting has shown that commercially available berries purported to be from the Himalayas are likely not really from there, but instead from China; in this case it's equally uncertain whether the salt this company is selling actually comes from the Himalayas. I concur. It looks like ad copy from the above-mentioned site. I recommend a complete re-write of the article when suitable information can be found to properly source the article, or deletion of the article in exhange for a mention in the general salt article. Pink Salt

As mentioned above, pink colored salt is not unique to the Himalayas. There is pink salt from Hawaii, Peru, California, and several other locations around the world. A simple google search brings up ads for all these differing kinds of pink salt. If this article is deemed to merit a rewrite rather than deleting it in favor of a mention in the main salt article, then the article needs to be rewritten to reflect the fact that pink salt is not unique to the Himalayas.
