I am certainly no expert on this subject, but I have read the main purpose of pipe dope or Teflon pipe thread tape is to lubricate the thread surfaces so they will screw together tighter, to the point of deforming them. This tight deformation creating the seal, not filling imperfections in the threads with the dope or tape as indicated in this article.
Does anyone have authoritative references to settle this question?
Just to get a few opinions, is it appropriate to have discuss who is the better salesman of a material is?
