editI understand that this song influenced the early writting style of Bob Dylan.
In the original production and still in many performing editions, the song belonged to the ingenue Polly, not to the prostitute Jenny. It was switched to Jenny in the early 1930s Murnau film version and in Marc Blitzstein's famous 1950s off-Broadway production to beef up the part for Lotte Lenya, who played Jenny in those productions. This is addressed in the Wikipedia's 3PO article; it should be be mentioned here also. (BTW, Wikipedia's 3PO article refers to the piece as an "opera", so shouldn't this be number be called an "aria"? I have no idea what's considered correct in such a hybrid piece of musical theater.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.234.41.17 (talk) 05:48, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
credits (Maupray?)
editOn "Nina Simone in Concert" from 1964 on musicbrainz, the song "Pirate Jenny" is credited to "Weill - Brecht - Maupray Blitzstein". Any idea, who is ment with Maupray? A wrong writing for Marcus? I couldn't find any hints in the web ... -- 217.227.215.71 (talk) 22:30, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- I suspect you might get a better answer at Talk:Nina Simone in Concert. My guess is that Maupray is the arranger. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:09, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
(moved the question and answer here from Talk:I Loves You, Porgy -- 217.224.220.157 (talk) 14:59, 21 December 2013 (UTC))
- I'm pretty sure "Maupray" is just a typo for Marc (Blitzstein); can't find any info on a Maupray. But open to suggestions.Meerkat77 (talk) 01:58, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
