Origin of name
editPiscataway was founded shortly after 1666 when one of the large landholders of the Woodbridge (NJ) proprietary sold off his holdings to four New Hampshire men, who named the town in honor of the stream, the Piscataqua River, that separates Maine and New Hampshire. By 1670, at least fifteen families had settled there.
