Potential Rename
editShould we rename (with appropriate redirection) this article? I think Plagioclase feldspars is more accurate because it reflects the fact that plagioclase is really a mineral group. Jon 12:37, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
No, correct term is "plagioclase", not "plagioclase feldspar". Siim 14:45, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Article began with word "plagioclase", now it's replaced with "In geology, plagioclase". Why so? Plagioclase is a group of minerals and therefore it's not only geological term. IMHO, articles should preferentially begin with term in bold letters. Exceptions should be made only if really needed. Siim 14:51, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Which source says that plagioclase is more properly called plagioclase feldspar? Siim 14:57, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
The extinction angle is an optical characteristic caused by albite twinning
It says to me that extinction angle is something which is caused by albite twinning :) What about biotite, pyroxenes and so on. They don't have albite twinning but they certainly have ext. angle. Siim 15:04, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- Agree - keep name as is, plus fixed ext. angle & In geology ... bits. Vsmith 23:39, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
I remember reading a WP policy recommendation a while ago that recommends WP articles start with 'In (field of endeavour), term is ...". It's a traditional encyclopaedia thing. I'll try to find the ref. Jon 11:41, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Chart Narrow Heading Necessary?
editSeems unnecessary to make a legend and place the abbreviations in the column heading when the element fits fine. You just then need to center the percentage ranges, which I don't remember how to do at this moment. You can also shorten the table by putting the image in its own column.
Name | % CaAl2Si2O8 |
% NaAlSi3O8 | Image |
---|---|---|---|
Anorthite | 90–100 | 10–0 | |
Bytownite | 70–90 | 30–10 | |
Labradorite | 50–70 | 50–30 | |
Andesine | 30–50 | 70–50 | |
Oligoclase | 10–30 | 90–70 | |
0–10 | 100–90 |
