For chemical plant lay out,it is mostly a material movement layout. You need to pump material to a higher level & then allow it to pass through various stages of operation by gravity as far as possible. For example, it is better to pump the filtered solution to a higher level from where it may flow to evaporator, crystalliser, centrifuge & mother liquor storage under gravity. It is best to handle solid raw materials at the lowest possible levels. For example Limestone may be reacted with Nitric acid at low level & then pump the solution at higher levels. The logic is simple. The solid handling occupies larger area & volume where the liquid handling requires small area i.e pump & pipeline.
