editI am the copyright holder for the FAQ from which much of this information has been taken (if you need verification, email me at the address in the site you referenced and I will respond within 8 hours). As a part of updating this information (which has not been done since 1997) I am shifting it to Wikipedia where it can be more easily kept up to date, as well as being more accessible, and integrated into the Wikipedia knowledge base. There is already a small amount of information about cross-platform development, but this is very general and does not address the specific issues related to GUI platform independent development. The article was recreated under the name PIGUI because it is an acronym and should be capitalised; Pigui was a mistake. --Webaware 22:07, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Title
editI went boldly and renamed this article from PIGUI to Platform-independent graphical user interface library. The full name provides much more clarity. I didn't recognize the topic until seeing that.
The guideline suggests avoiding abbreviations, so I did so thoroughly, but it's possible that something in between would be preferable:
- Platform-independent GUI
- Platform-independent GUI library
- Platform-independent graphical user interface.
List of PIGUI packages should also be moved. --Pnm (talk) 03:29, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
- I would have gone with "Platform-independent GUI library" myself, as the acronym GUI would be commonly known to the vast majority of the audience for this article. But yes, the new title is better than the old.--NapoliRoma (talk) 16:21, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I moved it to the name you suggested, and moved List of PIGUI packages to List of platform-independent GUI libraries. --Pnm (talk) 05:18, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
