edit@Keresluna: well spotted that File:PtCl2.jpg is the wrong colour to be PtCl2. It was an old sample but it was in a sealed glass ampoule, so I thought it wouldn't have gone off. By the look of it, though, it seems some moisture got in. Could it be platinum(IV) chloride that has become chloroplatinic acid or something similar?
Does anyone have samples of genuine PtCl2 polymorphs? Greenwood and Earnshaw (2nd edition, page 1154) says α-PtCl2 is olive-green or black, while β-PtCl2 is dark red. Ben (talk) 09:17, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
