The meaning of the name of the rank
editAs a native speaker and a person involved in Polish Armed Forces, I notice the English name platoon-leader is wrong.
Literally, plutonowy is an adjective form of pluton (platoon), so the English name should be more like platoon-man (man of/within platoon) and that's the practical application of a soldier of this rank. Plutonowy has never been dedicated to be a platoon leader, they could play this role only occasionally. Actually, plutonowy was rather a team leader (also vehicle crew leader), junior specialist or deputy of platoon leader.
Although plutonowy is categorised as OR-4 in NATO, the role is similar rather to US Sergeant (OR-5). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.17.192.185 (talk) 07:15, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
