Article title and content

The title of this article, "pneumatic washing system", seems to be a direct translation from Russian (Пневмоомывающее устройство). The term "pneumatic washing system" appears solely in articles of Russian origin and Google had no hits for the other term, "pneumowashing system". In western parlance, the terms "air bubbling system" and "air lubrication system" have been more widely used for underwater hull lubrication systems utilizing compressed air. The former was likely coined by Wärtsilä whose patented "Wärtsilä Air Bubbling System" was installed on about 80 icebreakers and other ice-going ships in the 1970s and 1980s. The latter has been used more recently to describe systems intended to reduce resistance in open water (e.g. Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System; Silverstream).

As for content, this article has few issues. It focuses solely on systems intended for ice-going vessels although similar systems exist also for open water. Furthermore, it gives an impression that the primary use of the system installed on icebreakers is "anti-icing" and makes no reference to reducing hull-ice friction although that was the selling point for Wärtsilä's system for several decades. Finally, it focuses on systems using compressed air, excluding mixed-flow and water deluge systems used for the same purpose.

My proposal for improving this article would be to rename it to Hull lubrication system and expand it to cover other system types as mentioned above.

Thanks for suggestion. The renaming to "Hull lubrication system" looks good and it would be good to add redirections to this article for other names of this system after renaming. I have not sufficient editor rights to rename it by myself. Anton Kopiev (talk) 00:38, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
