Successful photo trip

I took advantage of Tuesday's holiday to go down to the river with my camera. It was a complete success—I have pictures of both the source and mouth (that last took a lot of different angles before I sneaked out onto the rock outcrop just upstream and got the picture that settled it ... it's picturesque, leaves no doubt that it is the river's mouth, and you'll both love it. I am planning to edit and upload them this evening.

Oh, yes, of course, I also got pics of things in between: some shots from bridges and both Pocantico Lake and Rockefeller parks. From the latter I have a nice bridge shot that, if you're OK with it, could be used for DYK (Would you mind me adding myself to the nomination since I wrote the course section?) I like it better than the one currently in the infobox, even, since it's looking upstream. And of course we can come back in warm weather and take new versions of the pictures, as well as video.

Daniel: wow, thanks so much. I'm really glad it all worked out, and I look forward to seeing the results! For the DYK, for either of you, feel free to add alternate DYKs, add photos, or add yourself to the nomination. PointsofNoReturn: GA nominations can be taken up quickly, but often it takes several months before a reviewer gets to it; sometimes you have to seek out willing people, otherwise it might never get done. Yes, GA has a huge backlog at the moment. I nominated Arab street even before that, and it's still languishing, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's next year before it even gets reviewed. One thing you can do, if you've worked on a nominated article, is review a few yourself while yours is pending. Daniel Case (talk) 03:31, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Also, feel free to add some more of your photos to the article, perhaps in the course section where there's room. As for the photo of the source, was that by Echo Lake? If so, it's hard to tell, but I suppose it'll work fine as long as it's captioned that way. I wish we could see beyond those fallen trees, it almost looks like the river continues behind them, or is that the lake I'm seeing?--ɱ (talk) 19:00, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Yes, it's Echo Lake, and that is just beyond the downed trees. I thought of going up there, but there were people fishing and I didn't want to disturb them.

I have another shot showing a short tributary that flows in just 50 feet below it, but there was no water spilling over the dam and it's very clear at the spot what the main stream is. Daniel Case (talk) 05:44, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

{a derivative of the Algonquin term Pockóhantès, meaning a 'run between two hills'" The generic "Algonquin for the local language (the Wappinger confederacy were speaking Delaware languages_) does not inspire confidence.
