P. snelleni

edit

I correctly formatted the species (abbreviated and italicized) to read P. snelleni following the first mention of Polistes snelleni. --Dkrinock (talk) 16:09, 30 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that many embedded links did not lead to Wikipedia articles. I either fixed the link to lead to the correct page or removed the link if no Wikipedia page exists.--Dkrinock (talk) 16:09, 30 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions/Corrections

edit

Overall, I thought your article was really well done. Here are some corrections I made and suggestions you should consider for expanding the article further and improving its clarity.

  • I linked the words “paraphyly” and “protandry” to their respective pages because they are key ecology terms that readers most likely would not know.
  • You have inconsistent usage of “is” and “are”(singular vs. plural verbs) when using P. snellini as a subject noun. You often shift from “P. snellini is” to “P. snellini are.” P. snellini is a species so it should be referred to as “it” (singular); if you wish to employ the use of plural verbs, you should use a plural noun (e.g. wasps).
  • The “Colony cycle” section was really lengthy and could be split up for clarity, so I added the subheadings of “Construction of nest” and “Egg laying” to the section.
  • I corrected a typo in the text.
    • Typo: Females on the other hand are have different behaviors.
    • Correction: Females on the other hand have different behaviors.
  • You should avoid transitions such as “interestingly enough;” at best what follows is interesting and the phrase is unnecessary, while at worst what follows is uninteresting and the entire sentence should not be included. Either way it falls to the reader’s opinion, something Wikipedia dislikes.
  • You might want to talk about parasitoidism with respect to P. snelleni. Specifically, the wasp Elasmus japonicas is a parasitoid of P. snelleni and attacks nests during the pre-emergence stage. Here is a link to an article discussing the effects of E. japonicas on P. snelleni: http://ci.nii.ac.jp/els/110004022291.pdf?id=ART0006278734&type=pdf&lang=en&host=cinii&order_no=&ppv_type=0&lang_sw=&no=1412298458&cp= Marecto (talk) 02:08, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Minor edits

edit

Overall I thought this was a great article for Polistes snelleni; there was a good amount of information and topics that really introduced the reader to many aspects of this wasp. I made a few minor edits, including bolding P. snelleni in the overview, linking Polistes, P. biglumis, and P. chinensis. I also fixed the spelling of "Identification" and added a period after P in P. snelleni, and added the class banner on top. Setoiris (talk) 03:17, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
