The difference

edit

Form of government, a related but separate concept - what is the difference? It is unclear to me. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 15:08, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I am not sure that fascism could be placed being on the right in the political spectrum. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.112.104.156 (talk) 09:36, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Democracy and immigration

edit

However, the presence of democracy does not always mean citizen’s wishes will be equally represented. For example, in many democratic countries[which?] immigrants, and racial and ethnic minorities, do not receive the same rights[clarification needed] as the majority citizens.[according to whom?]

This sounds more like a personal opinion than a wiki article Could have said the same about any political system, why does it pop up on about democracy specifically ? besides, this statement badly lacks argumentation and tangible examples. To me it seems as if an Xth triggered social justice warrior needed a platform to excavate their negative feelings Although it is very true that "democracy does not always mean citizen's wishes to be equally represented", since majority rule could well please a little more than 50% the population and ignore the rest. But arguing the point by the bias of immigration debate, come on ... Plus it reads "immigrants, and racial and ethnic minorities, do not receive the same rights", did you mean in democracies like the US or the UK or any European democratic country ? where discrimination based on race or religion is illegal ? I must admit I'm a bit confused here — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:866B:7400:215E:3EA2:11A3:AAD2 (talk) 11:37, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Replace Democracy with Republic.

edit

The term Democracy is being misused, It should be swapped with Republic, and a subcategory for Democratic Republic should take its place. A Republic is a form of Government in that a group determines the goals of a state. Republics can be authoritarian and democratic, such as the Peoples' Republic of China - which is a republic, but with an authoritarian dictatorship. A democracy strictly refers to a type of Republic, like the United States of America; which is a Democratic Republic, and not the political identity as a whole.

Possibly. This article is a terrible mess that probably needs a WP:TNT treatment, then rebuilding from top with sources. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:46, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in Political system

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Political system's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Sondrol":

  • From Dictatorship: Sondrol, P. C. (2009). "Totalitarian and Authoritarian Dictators: A Comparison of Fidel Castro and Alfredo Stroessner". Journal of Latin American Studies. 23 (3): 599. doi:10.1017/S0022216X00015868. S2CID 144333167.
  • From Authoritarianism: Sondrol, P. C. (2009). "Totalitarian and Authoritarian Dictators: A Comparison of Fidel Castro and Alfredo Stroessner". Journal of Latin American Studies. 23 (3): 599. doi:10.1017/S0022216X00015868. S2CID 144333167.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 00:08, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
