Question for an expert

edit

This article is Poly(methylsilyne); Poly (methylsilyne) is a redirect to Polysilicon hydride. I doubt that both are right. This article has been moved to and fro between the spaced and unspaced versions before the redirect was created. I came across it while doing New Page Patrol, and am not a chemist. @PamD: With or without the space it's the same thing. It should be with no space. So "Poly (methylsiyne)" should redirect to here. Eric Kvaalen (talk) 15:28, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Eric Kvaalen: Thanks: redirect now retargetted. PamD 15:51, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

PMSy

edit

I was going to make a redirect to this article from PMSy (as a retired librarian that's the sort of gnomery I do!) but then found that this abbreviation also gets a mention in Polysilyne, where it isn't clear (to me) whether the abbreviation is supposed to refer to Polysilyne or to one of its derivatives mentioned in the previous sentence. Perhaps someone could sort out a dab page, a redirect, or a clarification? Thanks. PamD 11:10, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@PamD: "PMSy" in the Polysilyne article does mean poly(methylsilyne).Eric Kvaalen (talk) 15:28, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Eric Kvaalen: Thanks: redirect from abbreviation now made. PamD 15:51, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Redirect?

edit
Pinging Smokefoot who previously made this article into a redirect. shoy (reactions) 13:54, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Eric Kvaalen. Well Poly(methylsilyne) is a subset of a super-specialized class of materials called polysilynes, which has been the subject of 90ish papers and patents. Eric undid my redirect, not sure why. It is such a narrow topic that it seems to be a disservice to split it up because readers are going to want to understand the entirety, esp. since these materials are messy mixtures. Not a big deal.--Smokefoot (talk) 14:11, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Smokefoot: FWIW I would not oppose a revert based on the state of the article. shoy (reactions) 14:20, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

We should definitely have a link to Polysilyne in this article. I'll do that. But there's no reason to redirect to polysilicon hydride! As I said in my edit comment, that article doesn't even mention poly(methylsilyne). It's about compounds that don't contain carbon. Eric Kvaalen (talk) 15:28, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Eric Kvaalen Don't you think that this article should be a redirect to polysilyne? Maybe I missed something, but poly(methylsilyne) is one of the poly(silyne)s, others simply differ in the R group. --Smokefoot (talk) 21:26, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well no, I don't think so. That article says very little about poly(methylsilyne). And we don't lump together, say, poly(methyl acrylate) with all acrylate polymers. Eric Kvaalen (talk) 07:43, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Polymethylsilyne IS a polysilyne. Does that make any difference? Maybe I should edit these articles to help make clear the connection. Would that help?Smokefoot (talk) 15:31, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I already put that in the article, on December 29th. Eric Kvaalen (talk) 12:33, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
