Flag

edit

Several flags were used during the Portuguese administration of Macau to denote the various branches of the colonial government. However, it never had a territorial flag (as with most other Portuguese colonies) and simply used the national flag of Portugal. Wouldn't it therefore be more accurate to use the current flag of Portugal (one in use at the termination of Portuguese rule in 1999) in the infobox rather than the flag of the Municipal council? 80.189.158.42 (talk) 18:01, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Decided to change the image to the flag of Portugal, feel free to change back if my reasoning is flawed 80.189.158.42 (talk) 17:36, 23 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
You are right, there was no 'official' territorial flag for the Portuguese administration of Macao. However, it is worthy of note that the flag of the Leal Senado was used to represent Macao in the transfer of sovereignty from Portugal to China.
Perhaps for the sake of accuracy, we can explore the option of putting both the flags of the Municipalities of Ilhas and Macao alongside the Portuguese flag on the main page? Alternatively a link to the flags of Macao could be attached next to the coat of arms like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austria-Hungary. Unfortunately the flag of the Municipality of Macao (the flag of the Leal Senado) displayed on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Macau is inaccurate. Preceded by

edit

Xiangshan County, at least the version discussed in that article, was established after this colony was established. It doesn't make sense to say Portuguese Macao was preceded by that county. This entry should read Ming dynasty. Rhialto (talk) 09:11, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Distinction from 'History of Macau'?

edit

What is the rationale for this article being separate from History of Macau? I can kind of understand there may be one, but it would be good to spell it out, here. - Onanoff (talk) 18:04, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
