Madeleine McCann

edit

Little McCann did not went missing in the beach, but in a hotel a couple of miles away. The sentence «British toddler Madeleine McCann disappeared from here on May 3, 2007.» is in fact inacurate. Surpreendido 23:28, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ridiculous that the little girl's disappearance should be so prominent on this page. There is already a sizeable page dedicated to her. We do not list all disappearances from Lisbon or Barcelona, for example.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.133.28.2 (talkcontribs)

This article deals with the village as well as the beach. The Madeleine McCann disappearance is a major event in the history of the village and merits a single paragraph. If the concerns are that this unbalances the article then the answer is to expand the content on the beach and village. TerriersFan 01:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
If that is the case then we should also include the death of the young British man a couple of years ago who initially was thought to have disappeared and later was found dead on a cliff-face towards Montinhos da Luz. I will do some more research as all I can seem to find is stuff about Madeleine at the moment. VTSPOWER 10:43 22 May 2007 (UTC)
If his death generated significant publicity, per WP:N, that's fine. However, if he died in Montinhos da Luz then it would be better to start a needed article on that place and include it there. TerriersFan 03:37, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes and add also the names list of all the dead people from the local cemetery. They are very important for the local people!! Mainly the fishermen who died at sea. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.180.138.210 (talk) 19:49, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Why is Madeleine McCann disappearance in this page? Madeleine McCann disappearance is not a major event in the history of the village, it is just a sad story. There are other children missing who are "major events" and deserve being treated with the same importance.
Because this is the only event in the history of the village that has its own article - if there are other people who dies or has disappeared from this village, that have generated multiple media sources, them create an article that can be linked from here. Ylenia Lenhard also went missing and was already found , there is no mention in Appenzell (town) page of her disappearance. It was not the event that generated multiple media sources but all the political contacts and money of her parents, otherwise it would be treated by the media like any other disappearance. There are 1,600 missing children in Germany [1] and there is nothing about it on the German towns pages. Events that generated multiple media sources are not being linked to the major towns or smaller towns of England or of other countries, why write a few lines about it on this page? There is already a link on Madelein's page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.180.153.63 (talk) 10:30, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Update:

Many of you forget, that the publicity surrounding the disapperance of Madeleine McCann is far greater than that of a normal missing person. The unsolved case has gained a slot within history books. Madeline's disapperance has captured global publicity on a scale never seen before with a missing person, therefore it's irresponsible to exclude this story. Madeleine will remain in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hsdnalerio (talkcontribs) 02:48, 5 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

As an example, another notorious case, Murder of James Bulger is mentioned on the Bootle town page, under notable people. Perhaps there should be the addition of a notable people section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.197.53.37 (talk) 17:08, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Madeleine McCann is mentioned in the text. If there are more notable people then it would be fine to add her to the list but a list of one wouldn't be great idea. TerriersFan (talk) 20:05, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Archaeological Station

edit

The page is locked? So one editor has to add this information:

There is an Archaeological Station in Praia da Luz at the site where it was found the ruins of a Roman villa and a Thermae paved with mosaics and the ruins of Roman saltwater reservoir, probably for fish-processing, as well as several artifacts.

I have added it - please say here if it is not accurate. TerriersFan 20:10, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
