Edited the Reproduction section - voles are studied as an animal model of monogamous behavior, but do not display sexual fidelity. 170.140.153.249 (talk) 03:37, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Early Work

edit

The first studies of prairie voles were done by researchers at the University of Illinois who were doing field studies of rodents: Male-female pairs of prairies voles repeatedly fell into their live traps. They were the ones who ascertained that prairie voles mate for life although they couldn't explain why. Please include information about this early work. Larry Young may have done the later work confirming oxytocin and vasopressin receptors in the brain that allowed prairie voles to identify their mate but there would have been none of that without that early work.
