Nickname

edit

Despite the nickname "The Rent" being used by some people and by some tenants, it's not used officially nor is it typically called that. By the same standard, Gillette Stadium is sometimes called, facetiously, as "The Razor", yet it is not listed in the sidebar for Gillette Stadium. Thus it has been removed.Emsley 00:52, 14 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Plans to build a new stadium.

edit

I have never edited an article before so I will leave the edit to the more exerienced. In the 3rd paragraph beginning "It The New England Patriots considered moving to Connecticut."

It is true a new stadium was considered in the mid 1990s and the Patriots considered moving to Hartford (at least according to the press I saw) and sharing the stadium with the UConn Huskies.

References - There were many articles in the Hartford Courant. The Boston Globe and the UConn library should have more. In one paper I remember seeing maps or sketches of where it would be.

This moved was considered before building Rentschler Field Stadium and was considered being built in lieu of Rentschler. It was speculated, and may have been, a ploy for the Pats to get a better deal in Foxbrough, Massachusetts.

It Was Not going to be placed in the center of Hartford. This statement: "The new stadium was supposed to be built on the Connecticut Convention Center site in downtown Hartford" is inaccurate. Any article I read at the time placed the new stadium site more in the vicinity of the Colt "Onion" building and along the west side the river south of city center.

Difficulties I remember being part of the debate are:

- The bridges and highway over and alongside the river are notoriously crowded/busy.
- The congestion getting it and it's parking between the existing I-91 and the river.
- Getting an I-91 interchange in the small space to service the stadium and possible extensive work on the interstate highways to move them out of the way and/or make a new interchange.
- The difficulty of getting all those cars across the river from UConn and areas east of Hartford.
  - The possibility of parking at Rentschler and running shuttle buses across the river to the stadium was presented as an alternative to mitigate the parking and traffic issues.
