Expanding this page?
Hi all,
This page is very bare-bones. When you compare it to something like the Law Firms page which is a comprehensive list of everything you'd need to know about Law Firms, this pales in comparison.
Just wondering if anyone will have a problem with me taking on this project? Doesn't seem like there's too much activity here, but I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.117.128.134 (talk) 14:32, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Edit (4/25/2017) - Done a bit of work on the page and I think it looks a lot better now. I expanded the section about predatory practices to include another source, and also mentioned that lawyers are careful about getting involved with Pre-Settlement funding companies unless they trust them. I think this is more honest than simply explaining what Pre-Settlement Funding is and having one line at the end that says "by the way, some people think this is predatory".
Hopefully you all like the changes I made. I may come back to expand more on the "common usage" section, since that's pretty small now.
Also I added NYSTLA as a reference since they're a consumer-protection group in this industry. ( https://www.nystla.org/index.cfm?pg=history ) hope that's an appropriate source — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chzrm3 (talk • contribs) 11:25, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
Expanding on Unethical Section
editHello,
There's a line at the end of the article that seems like an afterthought. "Some consider it unethical to take a percentage of the value of the case and limit their recovery to the agreed repayment of principal plus accrued interest." If you read the article it's based on, it explains quite a bit more about how this industry works than the Wikipedia page does.
I think this could be expanded into its own section, along with a bigger explanation of how pre-settlement funding actually works. It seems like there's a lot going on here, and it would be ideal if people were fully informed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chzrm3 (talk • contribs) 03:38, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
Poorly written sentences that should be changed
editSince it may take a while for us to agree on bigger changes, let's start small. There are several sentences throughout the article that are very wordy and confusing. Here's perhaps the most egregious example:
"This funding helps plaintiffs who have immediate needs, such as medical care, secure financial help before the legal proceeding has run its course, often a matter of several years. "
The way that sentence is broken up is so confusing and largely unnecessary. Here are a few variations of ways it could be changed:
"As it often takes several years for a court case to resolve, this funding helps plaintiffs with immediate financial needs get money faster."
Same idea is conveyed, without the baggage of "such as medical care!" and three breaks in the sentence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chzrm3 (talk • contribs) 16:26, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
