I'm wondering if the description of the profile angle is a bit terse. It might appear as if the profile angle is constant. Perhaps one could make it explicit that the profile angle varies along the tooth, from root to tip, describing the curve. - You have a misconception due to the fact that this article is entirely wrong. A better place to look for real information would be Dudley, Gear Design Handbook, Buckingham's Analytical Mechanics of Gears or the Red Ring book (which is clearest but out of print), Modern Gear Design.
