first it is a couple of HUNDRED years older then the other bank mentioned, it is historically knowen, look at hottinger chronology. And it is one of the 14 truly private banks left. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Richotting (talkcontribs) 13:39, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Gold Money

edit

The mention of GoldMoney and e-gold is not relevant to this article, any opposition to the deletion of these references? Lachambre 10:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal

edit

Should be moved to Private bank, to be conistent with Commercial bank & Investment bank - the activity (commercial banking) redirects to the institution (commercial bank) DocendoDiscimus 09:28, 12 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Private banks and private banking are two very seperate things. They should not be mixed and the topics are best explained as currently defined.Mrmike77 14:41, 22 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do Not Merge for reasons Mrmike77 explains. This would be like merging lightning bug with lightning rod. --StanZegel (talk) 18:58, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Do Not Merge as per Mrmike77. --RedHillian 05:48, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Euromoney awards

edit

Half the article is dedicated to the Euromoney awards. These additions by Contributions/80.169.156.244 are advertising and should be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.49.218.53 (talkcontribs) 10:49, 16 January 2007

Sorry, not sure what you mean? There's no reference to Euromoney on this article? Are you possibly looking at an older version that's been cached by your browser? Anyway, wikipedia encourages us to Be Bold so jump right in! --RedHillian 00:54, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually, there is a good chunk dedicated to Euromoney magazine's private banking awards, but a google search for "private banking awards" yields several private banks that display the award prominently on their page. I think it's safe to call this some form of gold standard for rankings in this area. Thesilence 17:52, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ive removed the company names in the private bank section of the usa & the UK; added best known private bank in USA (fed. reserve of NY); the uk section named a company that was taken over by RBS so that is no longer relevant; so should no longer be there (seemed a bit 'advertising' to me) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.209.108.76 (talk) 15:31, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Private bank and Private banking

edit

This article and the Private banking article distinguish the two things, but this article then has a list of both things mixed. That seems illogical to me. -- Beardo (talk) 04:31, 4 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Merger for private bank and private banking

edit

I agree, since there has been a bit of dissension and I dont want to create a public argument I am going to propose a merger and hopefully anyone who wants to edit these articles can vote. If a merger does not happen, then hopefully the differences can be completely distinguished and there can be a link on the pages leading to the opposite page. I'm not sure what to do in a situation like that because honestly, I'm too new to wikipedia and I haven't read enough about mergers yet. I apologize in advance if the merger being proposed disrespects anyone's expertise, knowledge, and skills, which I can promise you I dont have when it comes to economics and banking. That however, does not mean that I dont have enough core knowledge to understand grammar and I know how to learn, so as a learner, I dont see why these articles are similar and have similar titles but yet represent completely different subjects. So thank you to everyone who votes on this issue, and thank you for the quality of your previous, present, and future edits. Svrangerchrista (talk) 13:36, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Move to private banker

edit

I moved this article to "private banker", which was reverted by @CambridgeBayWeather:. He argued that "A private banker would refer to a person but the article is about an organisation"[1]. According to Banking in Switzerland#Private banks, however, "In Switzerland, such private banks [ie, those which in their legal form are a partnership] are called private bankers (a protected term) to distinguish them from the other private banks". This is exactly what this article is about according to its definition. I suggest reestablishing the move. This would also solve the various criticism voiced above. --rtc (talk) 15:20, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Rtc. You should follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. I will point out that the article is about private banks worldwide and not just about the Swiss type. Redirects could be made to Banking in Switzerland#Private banks. Private bankPrivate banker – A private bank is a incorporated bank that specializes in wealth management for high-net-worth individuals, see Private banking. This does not match the current definition of the article, which is a bank that in its legal form is a partnership. According to Banking in Switzerland#Private banks, such banks are called private bankers in Switzerland. The same is true for Germany, see de:Privatbankier. UK C. Hoare & Co which is mentioned as an example has "private bankers since 1672" in its logo. rtc (talk) 07:51, 15 August 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 10:30, 22 August 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi!
