Species named after companies

edit

Is there a category of species named after companies? I know of one other: Krakatauia planticorum is a species of flies which is named after the Australian company Plantic. (Plantic makes biodegradable plastic from plants.)

The specific epithet “planticorum” means that this species is named after all the people associated with Plantic Technologies Ltd.

And those are not allowed on the encyclopedia. --Alterego 21:03, 2 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

cc-by-nc? I know that the image license is listed in the image upload page's license list, and that the website says the image can be used for non-profit. --Tmandry 18:51, 4 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
I understand the confusion. Please see Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#Non-free_Creative_Commons_licenses for more information. --Alterego 19:13, 6 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
More than three years later, readers might be interested in this section of Wikipedia's image use policy. 76.113.135.235 (talk) 16:03, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
If the image were cc-by-nc, it wouldn't be allowed on wikipedia except under a WP:NFCC claim (which would almost definitely fail here). However the source does apparently release it under a cc-by-sa license which is fine. They also say "We encourage non-commercial use of ant web images", which may mean they don't encourage commercial use, but there's nothing they can do to stop it if the commercial use follows the cc-by-sa license they've released it under. I'm guessing they realise that. They are of course free to encourage whatever they want in addition to the license they've released it under. Nil Einne (talk) 14:04, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
