Mr. Beluga as Anton's Son?

edit

I could have sworn that since the game said Katia was Mr. Beluga's daughter, that would make Mr. Beluga Anton's son. But maybe I'm wrong. Can someone clear that up with me? Superk1a (talk) 17:03, 8 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Whoops, that was supposed to go on the Talk:List of Professor Layton characters. Sorry, disregard! Superk1a (talk) 21:35, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

English?

edit

This article lists english-speaking voice actors for the characters despite no english release. Is there information missing or is this information inaccurate and irrelevant? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.43.145.13 (talk) 08:26, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should it not be noted that Maria Darling reprises her role as Luke, in the PAL version of the game? The cast section only lists the US voice actress. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.6.180.62 (talk) 10:47, 9 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

edit

Thanks Staka, for adding the names of the two new characters. Sadly, I don't know enough Japanese to be able to have gotten the names. I'm still trying to locate more information on the game plot, as well as the two new characters' influence on the plot. I've heard a rumor that the Sophia/Katia character is going to be a love interest for Layton, but I have no way of knowing how reliable that is. As soon as I get some verifiable news I'll post it. I'm actually surprised that with how popular the first game has been over here & over in Japan that there aren't any translated summaries of the 2nd game's plot. I have the game, played it and completed it. But I am concerned about the spoilers that this article may contain, before the release of the game in North America. The rumour that you've heard about Sophia and Katia isn't true. Sophia is or was the love of Anthony, who left him for more than a decade to save their son (or was it a daughter..). Should I have a reference when writing the plot, or if not I will start writing it. By the way, the Japanese wikipedia don't have the actual plot on there.. just a brief summary like on here. --staka (TC) 23:25, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
That would be wonderful if you could post something on here. I figured that it was more something someone made up since it was just something posted on one of those gossip-esque forums. Any summary that you want to provide would be much appreciated since there's no telling when exactly Nintendo will release the game. If they're smart, they'll have been working on it for a while now so they can put part 2 out when christmas rolls around. However it would be like them to wait too long or to not put the sequel out. It's not like something like that hasn't happened before. Tokyogirl79 (talk) 08:39, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Tokyogirl79Reply
This article states that the whole mystery lies in the train.. which isn't. They travel to the last town with the train, with some mystery (mainly finding a boy.. or a dog), also getting one of the features in Layton's Trunk. Last town reveals the whole mystery with the Box, also revealing who stole the Box from the Professor in the first scene. I added Professor's Trunk, Secret Mode, and Top Secret section to this article.. took so long. I'll add summaries in few days or so. --staka (TC) 16:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, that bit was my fault. I'd read it on one of the websites & put it in. Thanks for putting so much info in! You are incredible! Tokyogirl79 (talk) 08:15, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Tokyogirl79Reply
Been over a month since I did that but thanks for the reply.. at least I know someone is thanking for my contributions. --staka (TC) 16:13, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Move to English name?

edit

I believe that the game has been released in the US, and is due in the UK this year too. DancingCyberman (talk) 17:41, 19 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

It hasn't been released in the US, and it even been announced for the US or UK yet. I don't believe it even has an official English title, so I would say it should stay for the time being. Tommy11111 (talk) 17:05, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think Level-5 announced today that they will be localizing all future Layton games. They said its coming, and they are working on Pandora's Box... Name change is up to you, but I would wait until we get a trailer or something... AlexanderLD (talk) 00:01, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

English Boxart

edit

Well, I was wondering if anyone would want to add the game's localized American boxart, from Amazon. It can be found here:

Yeah, why not put it up! It would be better to do it now before some Europeans put their cover up! AlexanderLD (talk) 19:51, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Plot Summary

edit

I played the game, I know how it ends. But the current summary is bad. I think I should erase it, and just leave the general understanding from what is shown in the trailer. Then once the game is finally out I will just write the entire thing. The only reason I am waiting is because some of the names have been changed when translated from Japnese to English. Name? Should it be Pandora's Box?

edit

I was wondering whether there was going to be any discussion on the name due to the two ENGLISH names... As usual I'm worried about Wikipedia's usual US-centricity. I did a Google search and the European one comes up with more results...--Kurtle (talk) 12:24, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you look, you'll see that someone had created the article originally as Professor Layton and Pandora's Box, but it was moved by someone not familiar with Wikipedia's rules for naming articles to the Japanese title. Then, after the U.S. version came out, someone noticed that the article existed with the Japanese title, and, following the Wikipedia guideline, replaced it with the U.S. title, probably unaware that the article had once before existed under the earlier English title. Oh, well. It's just how it wound up. You can still get to the article from all three titles, through redirects, and all three are mentioned in the first sentence. —Largo Plazo (talk) 12:57, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm actually inclined towards "diabolical", though not for any US-biased reason at all. "Diabolical" means Of, or pertaining to the devil, so it's actually a more accurate translation of 悪魔の箱, which means "Devil's box", or "Box of the devil". I don't know where "Pandora" came from, though I vaguely remember a mention of it long before an official english name, though I could be mistaken. I was actually about to remove the literal title from the intro, and checked here beforehand. - Zero1328 Talk? 09:21, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

But surely Pandora's Box is actually where the box in the title comes from? I do wonder if this is one of those times where a title is changed for the US market because they don't think US audiences will get the reference/find it exciting? (See Harry Potter, The Madness of King George, etc.) 78.145.95.55 (talk) 19:48, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Regarding where "Pandora" came from, my guess is that it came from the mythological Pandora's Box, which, if I recall correctly, released all of the world's diseases, evilness etc, but Pandora, the girl who opened the box, managed to close the box before "Hope" managed to flee, and "that's why hope is the last thing to leave a person" - in this case, the evilness was the gas (which put Schrader in a deep coma), and the hope was Sophia's letter to Anton. I hope you excuse my not too good English.--In Donaldismo Veritas (talk) 18:55, 30 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
