editI thought about linking to http://www.p25.com as there is more information about APCO, APCO-25 and trunking in general there, but considering that page is in support of a product I helped design, I thought I'd leave it off the main page. If somebody else feels it is worth adding to the main page, they can. Also, if desired I can add a shot of what the APCO-25 waveform looks like pretty easily. N0YKG 21:29, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
To do
editconsider merging from:
- Console Subsystem Interface
- Data Network Interface
- Subscriber Data Peripheral Interface
- Fixed Station Interface
- Telephone Interconnect Interface
- Common Air Interface
- Subscriber Data Peripheral Interface
- Network Management Interface
- Inter RF Subsystem Interface

Definitely merge - each link, by itself, is little more than a stub, but together under P25, they can be more than the sum of their parts. I'll make you all a deal - merge them, and I'll add a section under the CAI about testing the CAI - a subject I can speak authoratively upon. N0YKG 14:37, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

What about adding a section on the benefits of P25?
- "However, the lessons learnt during the disasters that our country has faced in the past decade"
- Your country differs from mine.

- "However, the lessons learnt during the disasters that our country has faced in the past decade"
- It seems to me that any "Benefits" section would be entirely a matter of opinion. Benefits compared to what? (conventional FM, DMR, EDACS, Tetra?) I think a feature comparison might be ok, but it would have to be rather careful to maintain a neutral POV. Thengeveld (talk) 21:35, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Relationship between APCO and TIA
editSeems to me it would be a good idea to include in the history section some cite from the letter of agreement between TIA and APCO. An important aspect of P25 is that APCO is (in principle) responsible for requirements, driven by user needs, and that TIA is then, in principal, responsible for the technical standards, which then get adapted by APCO (i.e. approved by the steering committee). It's important (and distinctive in my experience) that the theory is that the "need" is defined by users with consultation from the industry, and the "technology" is defined by the industry. I might take a pop at writing this up if no one hates the idea. Any thoughts? Thengeveld (talk) 21:36, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
In-line commentary moved to talk page
editThe information in this article is somewhat confusing, as the mainstream media has widely and inaccurately reported that this children's toy can jam a radio "out of the box", when, in fact, the device requires a significant amount of modification. This modification would generally require the services of an extremely competent technician, and would have to be performed in a radio shop or college laboratory. Regarding the overheard conversations, it is admitted in the article that this was most likely the result of operator error, i.e. the radio operator forgot to activate the encryption mode of the radio prior to initiating the radio conversation.

- Encyclopedia articles should not comment on themselves. If we could find and cite a published rebuttal to the U of P findings, that could be summarized and put in the article. I think the point is not how much modifcation you have to do, but that the system is somewhat brittle when interfered with; I don't doubt a Columbian drug cartel would have no trouble ordering whatever they needed from Agilent to jam security transmissions, let alone buying toys from Wal Mart. --Wtshymanski (talk) 15:18, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

External link update
editIn reference #10, the link is broken (404) due to a corporate merger - Daniels Electronics Ltd. was sold to Codan in 2012. A company named Danelec bought the old domain name danelec.com and started using it for their company, they have nothing to do with Daniels or Codan. The original P25 Radio System Training Guide document in the reference is available on the new Codan site, I am updating the URL. Ixat (talk) 17:30, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
