Reviews
editThis is one of thousands of Wikipedia articles reporting a large media conglomerates data in a biased format. Metacritic, being owned by CBS, and it's data are not essential here. Otherwise we are simply reporting what that company wants us to, just like the Newscorp's Rotten Tomatoes. This is a virus all over the Wikipedia world and something needs to be done about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.214.231.194 (talk) 00:35, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Citations
editI'm new at this, so my attribution is not in place yet. I'm not sure exactly how to select a decent source, nor how to place the attribution in the body of the page. Not yet, anyways. Jasonimus Prime 07:14, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

If someone doesn't add a reliable source that states this game will be avaible on PC, it should be removed. Samuitsuki 13:15, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
I have removed text that stated the game would be avaible on PC, since there wasn't added any reliable source. -- Samuitsuki (talk) 21:33, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

I have added that it is available for PC and PS3 as if you look on the official sierra website which was already there as a source and look in the copyright and platforms area it shows all 3 of xbox 360, pc and PS3. Also I havent added as Im not sure if it is apropriate but if you look prototype up on amazon either .com or .co.uk you will find it is available for preorder under all 3 platforms - Fierkraag 05:22, 23 January 2009 (GMT)
Reasons why this page is below standards for Wikipedia
edit- Its a videogame page without a "Development" section
- It focuses far too much on the actual content of the game, and completely ignores any other info, like the fact that Radical took 21,000 photos of New York as part of production or the fact that the game is undergoing censorship in Australia
People, write some of this down instead of wanking off about how awesome this game is gonna be! --Ginsengaddict (talk) 02:08, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah - wikipedia is about more than that —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.168.106.52 (talk) 03:39, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Please do not put up your thoughts about PROJECT PARIAH on wikipedia. It is still under debate who Pariah is, but most likely not Cross. I dislike seeing that on the page without evidence. The Web of Intrigue points against Cross being Pariah. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.119.172.133 (talk) 20:54, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Cross is the Specialist's real name, and Pariah is Elizabeth Green's son. I wonder who the father is? Maybe we'll find out if they make a Prototype 2. 142.26.133.248 (talk) 21:43, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Christ, this article is terrible. This game was in the works for numerous years and was anticipated since 2007 yet there's no decent information on this at all. VG Editor (talk) 12:32, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Wait, there was a development section? Where'd it go? Octane [improve me?] 20.06.09 2341 (UTC)
The entire characters-section should be replaced with parts about development and reception. Also, the plot-synopsis should be drastically shortened. Most of the information currently on the article is completely uninteresting for anyone looking for general information about the game.
Giant clock
editOn the main website of Prototype http://www.prototypegame.com/ after you enter your birth date, there is a giant clock, perhaps till release date? its not till new year, because it is 7th of january. Anyone know what it is? perhaps release date or demo? please check it out Wckdneer (talk) 18:08, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is on the 8th of January and it is expected to have a big showing there due to some leaked videos mentioning the show. I would hope we come away with at least a release date Amber996 (talk) 11:46, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
you should probably move the clock statement from the second sentence to a new paragraph.it seems misplaced. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.8.242.112 (talk) 03:41, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Formatting
editI fixed up the formatting of the page a bit and added a tag for more sources (it has a decent amount already, but it still needs in-text sources and I'm too busy/lazy to do it myself). More detailed and technical sections on gameplay, development, and release should be added too. -Fearfulsymmetry 16:58, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
"(Here is the refeerence; http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/871/871582p1.html)" This needs to be put as a source formatted like the others. I do not know how to or else I would do it. 67.142.235.68 (talk) 14:06, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Game Setting
editThe events of the game takes place in fictional city named "Hope". You can check this on game official site 83.8.41.1 (talk) 15:02, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- On game official page you can find an screen of postcard stating "HOPE - Idaho - The nicest people on earth!". In addition, title of image states that its population is '79'. Another image constains map of whole USA, with market Hope 83.8.39.57 (talk) 14:23, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- Official interview with the guys making it says it takes place in New York. In one of Mercer's Web of Intregue video's there's a flashback of a place called "Hope", so I'm thinking that may be Mercer's hometown, as he says in one of the videos he's seen a whole towns vanish. Of course, this is all just speculation on my part, but the majority of the game takes place in NYC. 75.157.75.19 (talk) 04:03, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- The town of Hope, Idaho is featured in the comic Prototype Issue #1. When you are introduced to it, a black ops team is sent there to deal with an infection. Apparently, there's a secret lab located in the town. Since the first issue is the only one out now, we could went until the series finishes before guessing what the town has to do with Alex. The second issue is coming this May.
- Also, the person you heard talking about seeing a town full of people disappear was not Alex, but whoever he consumed. It's in a video of the first Web of Intrigue target we see. -- (Mrja84 (talk) 19:36, 11 April 2009 (UTC))
- I realize I'm a bit late, but the town of Hope, Idaho exists... albeit not quite as the game depicts it, being still alive and well!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.124.247.58 (talk) 00:05, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- I wonder how they're taking the fictional portrayal of their hometown? (evil chuckle) 142.26.133.248 (talk) 21:41, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Abilities
editFrom what I've seen and heard on various websites, these are Alex's powers:
Shapeshifting: Alex can take on the form of any person he kills and absorbs
Gliding: Alex can glide through the air, leaving a trail of biomass behind him and get a upgrade to go strait down at immense speed into the ground
Whipfist: Alex's arm projects into a tentacle that lashes atound. Possibly upgraded to the 360 tentacle devastator
Ground Spikes: Alex runs biomass through the ground and projects it up as spikes. Upgraded to 360 spike devastator
Hammerfist: Alex's hand turns into a bony club
Armoured skin: Alex grows an exoskeleton
Claws: Alex's hands morph into talons
Blade arm: Alex's arm morphs into an enormous blade
Shield arm: Alex's arm morphs into a shield
Infrared/Infected Vision
Night Vision
Unnamed vision mode for hunting individual enemies
If you see any more add them. 142.26.133.248 (talk) 21:50, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- He doesn't have night vision, he has thermal vision. All his powers (at least the knows released) are listed on the website prototypegame.com - (Mrja84 (talk) 19:38, 11 April 2009 (UTC))
Mercer's outfit(s)
editIn some screenshots Alex is seen wearing a white hoody and a black vest, and in others he's wearing a white shirt, a grey hoody, and a black jacket. In an interview one of the developers says there wouldn't be any clothes swapping, so what's up with the different outfits? 75.157.75.19 (talk) 04:03, 14 September 2008 (UTC) its when the game was in development(anonymous person)
I think some of the screens you're seeing are from over a year ago, when the game was in the alpha build. Bertstar (talk) 00:12, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Alex's Sister
editShouldn't we add that Alex's sister is trying to help him recover his memories and that their mother is hinted to be a major antagonist? 75.157.92.48 (talk) 05:34, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
- No cause it isn't confirmed what the story is about and who the enemy really is. I see no problem adding the sister. -- (Mrja84 (talk) 01:12, 3 February 2009 (UTC))
The Specialist
editSupposedly the Specialist is an elite Blackwatch soldier sent to kill Alex, but there's one thing I noticed. In various videos it shows a seemingly naked person standing behind a fogged up window, with only their face visible. Judging from the shape of the person's face and body, I'd say that person is a woman. Looking at the Specialist's hairstyle, it's identical to that person's. But that would make the specialist a woman, whereas the Specialist is both referred to and has the body proportions of a man.
- You shouldn't jump to conclusions from videos that do not give much info. -- (Mrja84 (talk) 01:13, 3 February 2009 (UTC))
- A recent video has showcased the Specialist, and he is most definitely not female. It only shown him commanding troops, the video he not showcase his combat skills, if any. -- (Mrja84 (talk) 19:39, 11 April 2009 (UTC))
- OP is thinking of Elizabeth Greene, who is speculated to possess powers similar to Alex's.Bertstar (talk) 00:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
You don't get to be the commanding officer of a top-secret military organization if you don't have any combat skills. 142.26.133.248 (talk) 18:11, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
He's got a cattle prod - that much can be gleaned from the videos --202.168.106.52 (talk) 03:35, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
My bad. Turns out the "seemingly naked person standing behind a fogged up window, with only their face visible" was Elizabeth Greene after all. Kinda epic how she lobbed Alex out the door. I guess it's her way of saying thanks for freeing her. 142.26.133.248 (talk) 19:27, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Could it Be?
editIt says that Elizabeth's son was taken from her by Blackwatch/GENTECK after the Hope incident, and that he is described as being "something else". It also states that Alex is the product of the entire (Hope) event and is "something new". Could it be that Alex is in fact Elizabeth's son? Contributions/142.26.133.248 (talk) 15:10, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- No, Alex was a normal human before he got infected by the virus. He had no powers until he became what he is today. "PARIAH" (Elizabeth's son) is stuck at the age of 8, he is in a military base, considered "beyond top secret" 80.217.142.234 (talk) 18:46, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Release Date 2009?
editThe developers stated that the game would come out late 2008.--Kondrayus (talk) 20:16, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, obviously no one knows the exact date Prototype comes out, but according to GameStop, the pre-order doesn't even ship until the first of April... Has anyone else seen this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.55.190.72 (talk) 21:31, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
The Wiki page for PROTOTYPE states that the game will come out Dec.30 of 08 is this true? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Naruto Namikaze (talk • contribs) 22:37, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't know if this is something that should be looked at, but I found this on the Activision site, and they state Late/Fall 2008 on the prototype website. Link to the Activision page, with 28-12-2008 as release date: http://www.activision.com/index.html#gamepage%7Cen_GB%7CgameId:prototype&brandId:prototype If this is in fact correct please someone update it on the wiki, because I am rather new, and rather not touch that :D Wckdneer (talk) 01:35, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

- No official period of time has been given besides, Summer 2009. -- (Mrja84 (talk) 01:14, 3 February 2009 (UTC))
- I've merged the two discussions about the release date. The release is still set for Summer 2009, but it's been dated as June 9th 2009 for the US. -- (Mrja84 (talk) 19:44, 11 April 2009 (UTC))
I think the release date is June 9th, 2009 as it is stated on the official site :http://www.prototypegame.com/us/preorder.html, not december —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.3.130.234 (talk) 19:54, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Remove Advert Tag
editI rewrote the Plot section. Does anyone have a problem removing the Advert tag? Mjworthey (talk) 21:53, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- It's short and simple. I'd say it's fine.--Kondrayus (talk) 22:27, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Censorship
editIt's been reported on various sites that Prototype will go under censorship for its Australian (and probably New Zealand) release.--Vylen (talk) 08:58, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
It will be censored in Germany as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.157.56.207 (talk) 18:41, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Nah it probably won't even be released in Germany. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.135.94.184 (talk) 17:30, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Appropriate Language
editI noticed that there were a lot of mentions of "penis" and the term "faggot" was used once in the article; are these the actual terms used by the designers to refer to the game, or was it just vandalism? HaikenEdge (talk) 15:23, 15 October 2008 (UTC) Vandalism 142.26.133.248 (talk) 18:44, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- Probably Vandalism. I've watched the interviews and none of the designers used those words. 142.26.133.248 (talk) 20:15, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Multiplayer?
editWhen and who edited the multiplayer section? And shouldn't such a statement require a source? Oruko (talk) 12:22, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not the one who edited it, but I do recall seeing a video where one of the designers talks about online multiplayer, but I don't remember how I found it. I do know that I typed in prototype game interview on youtube and somehow came across it.--Kondrayus (talk) 23:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sadly, since Summer 2008 multiplayer in Prototype has been removed. -- (Mrja84 (talk) 19:46, 11 April 2009 (UTC))
- Too bad. It would've been epic if you could control Elizabeth Greene as the second player. 142.26.133.248 (talk) 19:21, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Sadly, since Summer 2008 multiplayer in Prototype has been removed. -- (Mrja84 (talk) 19:46, 11 April 2009 (UTC))
IP: explain the abbreviation
editFrom the first paragraph:
...based on an original IP developed in-house...
what's that?
89.102.3.223 (talk) 21:42, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- See the IP article. Ffgamera - My page! | Talk to me! | Contribs 11:16, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
IP? The abbreviation means Internet Protocol address. As defined by windows help and support: An IP address identifies a computer that is connected to the Internet or a network. As for the statement, "based on an original IP developed in-house"? I'm not sure how to explain it, but the answer is in the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD17yl5fw-U. I'm sorry if this doesn't answer the question, i'm new here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shadow6Wolf66 (talk • contribs) 02:07, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Then again, i dont see how the statement "based on an original IP developed in-house" is important. Should I remove it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shadow6Wolf66 (talk • contribs) 04:08, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
IP stands for Intellectual Property, not Internet Property as previous stated. It basically means that something original has been made and there are legal property rights held over it by its creator and gives them the right to use assests such as musical, literary, and artistic works; ideas, discoveries and inventions; and words, phrases, symbols, and designs.
In games development you kind of have a couple of routes to go down, you can use a licensed IP (such as a movie, or a sports game). Or you can use existing IP that the games company has already created and used successfully (such as making a sequel to Killzone or Left 4 Dead), or you create new IP. When Halo first came around that was new original IP. --70.135.104.154 (talk) 09:44, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Tried to edit, wouldn't let me
editI attempted to add an additional website that has another review of Prototype but it won't let me do it I would like the Reviews section of the Prototype wiki page to say this.
Reviews section of the page: The game has so far received positive reviews, earning a 9 from PSW UK Magazine, website www.gamingfront.net and a 9.5 from The Only Honest Critic
What am I doing wrong or if you know how to do it I would appreciate it if you would make the change for me or explain why it shouldn't be changed. If it's relevant that www.gamingfront.net has a review it's relevant that onlyhonestcrtic.blogspot.com has one too. Am I wrong about that? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Palahniukpimp (talk • contribs) 00:38, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Prototype released to public?
editIt is only June 7, about 2 or 3 days away from release on june 9nth. And already I am finding people with copies of Prototype, and youtube videos of these people playing them. Is prototype out already? How did these people get these copies of the game? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shadow6Wolf66 (talk • contribs) 10:04, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Do You Have To?
editDo you have to eat Elizabeth Greene? I thought the developers said you could choose whether to side with the military or the Infected, or did they take that out? Contributions/142.26.133.248 (talk) 21:39, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
You have to, the developers lied about the 'choose a side' part, you're forced to follow the main story...80.217.142.234 (talk) 18:49, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Sucky! And I was actually looking forward to this game! The shapeshifting part's cool, as is the unexpected ending where Alex is revealed to be the physical manifestation of the virus, but still, I think it would've been better if you could've picked a side. Here's hopin' for Prototype 2. 142.26.133.248 (talk) 19:42, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Problems with the specific breakdowns
editThere are a few problems with the specific character/concept breakdowns in the article, that make some assumptions not supported in the game, or tell prospective players how to interpret certain vague events within the game, so I've started to clean them up. Kurosau (talk) 22:42, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- Aye. This page is obviously heavily prone to original research, seeing as so much in the game is left somewhat vague (the final status of Dana and Karen, how Cross became the Supreme Hunter, the final status of PARIAH, etc.) I think I've managed to remove these claims as of today...no doubt more will show up. 24.15.197.87 (talk) 05:46, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Game Plot
editThere was a problem with the storyline the project in Hope,Idaho was REDLIGHT the project in Manhattan was BLACKLIGHT. Also the beginning of the storyline is not there. Falkuirk (talk) 23:28, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry about the confusion. Octane [improve me?] 20.06.09 2338 (UTC)
Controversy
editAs I stated in a post just a few lines above, this page is and will be heavily prone to controversy, original research, and speculation. Many issues in the game are either left vague (e.g. the status of PARIAH) or unknown (e.g. the status of Dana and Karen, also how Cross came to be the Supreme Hunter in disguise). I have deleted several statements regarding these issues that were uncited or composed of pure speculation. To avoid unnecessary edits in the future, let's try to keep that kind of thing to a minimum. If you're going to add anything about one of the confusing, vague, or controversial events in the game, you must provide a valid source, preferably in addition to a quotation from that valid source. For an article about a game like this, simply leaving a controversial statement there with a {fact} tag just doesn't cut it. For example.
"It is proven through the Web of Intrigue that the Supreme Hunter is PARIAH, and is therefore also Captain Cross.[citation needed]"
That was a hypothetical example, but I mean, seriously. Stuff like that deserves to be simply deleted unless posted with a proper and valid citation. Otherwise, it's just speculation or OR. And speculation/OR with a {fact} tag is still speculation/OR. 24.15.197.87 (talk) 06:01, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Removing possible WP:OR when it is surrounded by other uncited information is not progressing the article. Instead, it would be more helpful to find and cite sources for what is listed, and after everything is cited, remove stuff which is false. My philosophy is to leave all but the most blatant until sources emerge. This is a start article, so there's obviously WP:OR and other WP/MoS violations. Just please keep that in mind before gutting an unsourced article. --Odie5533 (talk) 06:39, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, the most blatant. Unfortunately, the most controversial topics are the ones that people seem to enjoy posting their OR on. People take what they see on Wikipedia as fact, even though they know it can be edited by anyone. If the statement is one that might be false and concerns a minor issue, then a {fact} tag is in order. If the statement is one that might be false and concerns a major issue, then a deletion is in order. This is what I meant to clarify to others in my above statement. But, now that the "Characters" section has been deleted, most of that aforementioned OR is gone. It mainly concerned the identities or status of characters, as I mentioned. 24.15.197.87 (talk) 20:22, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Characters
edit"Alex, PARIAH and Lendo have been said to have much in common" That is taken from the PARIAH section. Lendo is not mentioned anywhere other than there. Who is Lendo or is this a mistake? Falkuirk (talk) 10:43, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Semicolon needed with "however"
edit"The game does not use falling damage, however, the ground is seen to deform as the player lands after falling from great heights." This needs a semicolon either before or after the "however" (and they're not semantically equivalent). Not having played the game, I'm guessing it should be after. Is ground deformation the reason for the lack of fall damage (after) or incidental to the lack of fall damage (before)? Bluej100 (talk) 17:24, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
When you fall, it cracks the ground. I think the sentence is trying to explain that you fall normally, but don't take damage, as opposed to decreasing fall speed through Alex's superpowers. 220.253.182.105 (talk) 16:11, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Sounds like it's incidental, then. I'll put it before. Thanks. Bluej100 (talk) 06:18, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Characters section
editCan anyone tell me why this section shouldn't be removed in its entirety? It's very long doesn't seem to serve an encyclopedic purpose. 98.71.213.249 (talk) 17:51, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- Nope, reviewers noted that the plot is lightweight and that other characters are wheeled into and out of the game without having any lasting impact. Character sections are for when the characters themselves have more to them than can be dealt with in a plot summary, that certainly isn't the case here. Someoneanother 01:48, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and removed the entire section. Feel free to reinsert it, but you'll have to justify its inclusion here. If you just want to reinsert a few bits of information, please consider adding it to the plot section instead. 74.178.249.65 (talk) 17:17, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Quoting mistake
editRead the line, "Alex is caught in the ensuing blast. However, he manages to regenerate and thereafter muses on what he has become: "I am something less than human, but also, something more." in the plot section. Should this be fixed? The correct quote is: "What have I become? Something less than human, or but also something more". It's just a suggestion though, only a minor edit. Should I fix this, or just leave it alone?--Shadow6Wolf66 (talk) 09:33, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'd use an ellipsis, like this: "However, he manages to regenerate and thereafter muses on what he has become: '...something less than human, but also something more.'" 24.15.197.87 (talk) 20:25, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I apologize. I'm new at this, and I don't know what an ellipsis is. But what you just jotted down right there in quotation, I type that in the plot section? Thanks for your help, in advance.--Shadow6Wolf66 (talk) 10:18, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Severed leg?
editIf you go to Google and type in "Prototype severed leg", you will see many links regarding this severed leg that was mentioned by one of the game developers. Everyone seems to be confused by it, and people are wondering if this is just a joke to support game play by Radical Entertainment. The severed leg dos exist as i've found it many times. But theres much confusion regarding what it does. "Steve Mele, Art Production Manager of Radical Entertainment, said in a blog 'Speaking of exploring, I know there is a severed human leg on a rooftop somewhere in the city which initiates a side-story when found.' The link can be found here http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/videogames/480. We should make an article clarifying whether the severed leg story is true or false. Does anyone know for sure? --Shadow6Wolf66 (talk) 11:21, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Unless this story is important and fits WP:NOTABILITY, we should add it in the article. But it certainly doesn't warrant its own article.--Megaman en m (talk) 17:49, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, I have some links regarding the interview with Radical entertainment, and if it is requires, some links as examples of the confusion about the leg. However, i'd say this is your call. This will be my first section to add to an article, after all. And everyone seems to be worked up about it.--Shadow6Wolf66 (talk) 10:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Horizontal gene transfer.
editIsn't that how Alex get's new DNA from people and other NPC's in this game? Is it worth putting in the page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.77.226.5 (talk) 09:22, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- I think so, but unless a source says so it's original research and not critical to the article. --Explodicle (T/C) 14:11, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
