Edible cherries
editMy grandparents ate laurel cherries when they were young (and poor, just after WW2) and I have personally eaten them several times. They're not delicious, but if you lack food and vitamins as my ancestors did you can apreciate them. Indeed, they're not inedible at all, if you avoid crushing the poisonous seed. Perhaps not for pie making...
editAfter reading on here about how Cherry Laurel fruit is edible, we picked 4 cups of them today and pitted them for a pie. We surely didn't crush the pits; however, when I put my nose over the bowl and took a couple of whiffs of the strong smell of bitter almonds I got a little bit light headed. I called poison control to ask what they thought of my pie making idea and they said, "Don't." I have a 4 year old boy who would have loved to eat a couple of slices of the pie tonight. I suffered no ill effects from eating a handful of them the other day; however making a pie is different. Has anyone read Into the Wild? In that Chris dies from making a full meal out of something which was only edible in small portions. Use caution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.45.122.203 (talk) 21:58, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Taxobox pic
editThe current pic seems to be of one of thee dwarf cultivars, not the commonest form. Imc (talk) 13:12, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Species size
editI just made a partial copyedit of this article. I had intended to tackle the whole article, but didn't know what to make of the size measurements currently given, as not only do they seem wrong but they don't match my own (horticultural) source. Can P. laurocerasus really attain 18 metres (nearly 60 feet) in height? And what is anyone to make of those leaf measurements? PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 14:46, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Lots of pies
editAre we talking about the same plant, with pits rather than "seeds"? The picture looks right. I've made lots of laurel berry pies, eaten 2 or 3 slices at once, and occassionally served them to friends. They taste fine. I've never had any ill effects and no one has told me of having any, I picked a gallon today and put them in the freezer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.66.191.220 (talk) 22:40, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
