Merge with Sakura?
editSee Talk:Sakura.
- That article is about the cultural aspect in Japan. I think it can be useful to separate this articles like it seemed it was agreed on in order to not mix up this dedicated scientific article with culture. In that case, I've been more thinking of linking to Sakura in a See also section of this article. -- Northgrove 20:41, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Fruits
editAre the fruits edible? This is not discussed in the article currently. I had always thought it was like a Western cherry tree, in that both the blossoms and fruit could be enjoyed. Badagnani (talk) 04:06, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Plum or cherry?
editGenus is Prunus. Is it plum or cherry? In most cases it is called cherry, but I am a little bit confused. What is the distinction of plum an cherry? --95.132.164.193 (talk) 08:14, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
The page title is obsolete
editHi. According to this Tropicos page, "Prunus serrulata" seems to be a basionym, i.e. an obsolete name. I'm not conversant with botany, so please someone fix it. Thanks. --Ahora (talk) 07:13, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- This is an "Accepted" name per Plantlist. Tropicos does refer to Prunus serrulata as a basionym, but this is not necessarily an obsolete name. The epithet serrulata was the basionym for Cerausu serrulata and Padus serrulata. — Preceding unsigned comment added by User-duck (talk • contribs) 05:03, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
Ref from Japanese version of the article?
editSince it is partially in romanization, is this useful? I'm also leaving this up to someone with more experience in botany.

Nonsensical last paragraph in Description
editThe whole paragraph just repeats the same things, altering the wording. Surely it could be abridged. Kogigr (talk) 10:26, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
Fundamental questions about the classification of Prunus serrulata
editI am not an expert on plants, I just read a book by Toshio Katsuki, an authority on cherry taxonomy at the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute in Japan, but I have a big question about this article. If my understanding is correct, Prunus serrulata refers only to the cultivars that resulted from the interspecific hybrids of various Japanese wild species, especially Oshima cherry (known in Japan as the Sato-Zakura group), and Asian wild species should not be included in Prunus serrulata.--SLIMHANNYA (talk) 16:25, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- It was a misunderstanding due to the difference of classification by each country.--SLIMHANNYA (talk) 00:25, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
