Talk:Psychologists Board of Western Australia

Context

This is the first of a series of Wiki pages linking to Psychologists Boards in Australia and New Zealand. The Boards regulate and manage the practice of Psychology in this region. Although 'backed up' by legislation, changes in psychological practice and in society generally, mean that the Boards are frequently 'adjusting' and 'expanding' their perspectives on issues relating to the management of psychology. At the same time the Australian Government is considering replacing the Boards with a National Body with State Branches as part of the COAG reforms, which will involve a significant shift in legislation and arrangements.

The intention is to provide a link to Board sites and publications and issues. Although a considerable amount of the material here will be drawn from the Board sites, the Wiki format has the advantage of allowing us to 'bring forward' to a 'top level' details of publications and issues which otherwise require drilling down through the Boards own website(s). The Wiki format also allows us to integrate information from non Board websites (such as COAG and the APS) which will have bearing on the Boards, and particularly on their future direction. It also allows us to integrate articles and references to research papers which have a bearing on the Boards and issues of regulation and management of the practice of Psychology in Australasia and beyond.

In line with Wiki principles, the Wiki documents are not intended as 'homes' for ongoing debate or discussion or speculation. The only material that can be posted - within Wiki rules - is material that has already been 'published'. The Talk pages are available for limited discussion. I have created a non-Wiki Blog which incorporates links and commentary on issues, and subject to normal internet rules for a moderated forum (no abuse, personal attacks etc) that is one of several forums which are more appropriate (than Wiki) for carrying on debate.

While Wiki is open to editing, it should be understood that vandalism will be detected and reversed, and that all editors are bound by Wiki's guidelines which include a range of sanctions up to banning editors if they abuse (and continue to abuse) the guidelines. Editing is not 'anonymous'. Conversely, a great advantage of the Wiki protocol is that the format allows (almost) anyone to detect and correct any errors they see. There is no insistence in the Wiki protocols that a 'correction' needs to be debated before being made, but potential editors can take advantage of the Talk page if they wish to canvass 'proposed corrections or additions' with other users of the page before committing themselves. The official name of the Board actually includes the word "Registration". I've fixed this in the article intro. I think the name changed after passing of the new Act in 2005. The Board's website still has "Psychologists Board..." although this is probably because it hasn't been updated. I don't know enough about Wiki policy re: what all this means for the Article - ie ReDirect or renaming? Any ideas?GlenDillon 03:26, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
