Possible factual error with dates.
editThe article here on Wiki states Ptahhhotep as being Vizier around the 5th Dynasty, however the, "The Teachings of Ptahhotep" Date to written composition around the 12th Dynasty, as shown on http://www.digitalegypt.ucl.ac.uk/literature/ptahhotep.html and in the book 'History of Quotations' by M.J. Cohen & John Major; CASSELL Printing. I was just wondering which was correct and more accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by HideakiGenkichi (talk • contribs) 18:45, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- They are both correct. The Ptahhotep who was a Vizier in the 5th Dynasty was used as a 'historical figure' in order to add flavour to the later Middle Kingdom literature, it seems to have been quite common. Markh (talk) 20:07, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
No, the oldest surviving Manuscript of it is Middle Kingdom, but writing style and so forth all imply it is an Old Kingdom writing in origin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.144.33.65 (talk) 20:13, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Seconding the latter explanation. The most ancient surviving copy of this text is the Prisse Papirus I which dates to the beginning of the Middle Kingdom (XI-XII dynasty). But this doesn't mean it was written in that time. Writing style, grammar and content point to an older composition, probably in the Old Kingdom. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.246.130.63 (talk) 16:56, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
