More Information Needed!

This article needs a lot of expansion, by contributors who know what they're writing about, which EXcludes me. As far as I know, there is no federal copyright protection for any music recorded before February 15, 1972. That leaves state-by-state protection, and how does that work exactly? F'rinstance, if, let's say an obscure blues singer records ten sides in New York in the 1920's, they are commerically released, later - post Feb 1972 - discovered by a collector in Texas, he makes copies available on CD and markets them online to buyers all over the world, how would any copyright protection under the "Sunny Bono Law" or other state copyright statute be enforced?76.199.1.150 (talk) 17:38, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

This is extemely important, surely someone can set it out clearly? From what I can see many people are releasing things assuming they are public domain but if they are not they know no one will prosecute, as no one knows who has what rights? EDLIS Café 10:50, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

RM almost entire lead section?

Should the first two paragraphs of the lead section be removed? Those paragraphs consist of badly written information about early instruments and the beginning of musical notation but they do not seem to really pertain to the article which is supposed to be about music in the public domain. A brief history of damn near anything...

@P2prules: The article is about public domain music. That includes everything written before 1900. It does not require a, poorly written, overview of music since ancient times. Hence I removed it. Kleuske (talk) 13:49, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

List of sites to find Public Domain music?

Should we compile a list of sites for pd-music? It would be helpful for people looking for music, but I don't know if it's a thing not encouraged on Wikipedia. BubblesAndSuch (talk) 05:15, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Clarification Needed in Background Section

The last paragraph of the Background section says "...bring sound recordings into the public domain either 95 years after they were released or 120 years after they were recorded, whichever comes first." Each subsequent sentence seemingly contradicts the initial statement. Does the 95/120 sentence refer to music released/recorded after 2067-02-15? If so, that would be a good thing to add. I don't fully understand the intricacies, so I don't want to be the one to add it.

If there is an article that better covers this, that would be a good link to add. Neither Public domain in the United States#Sound recordings nor Music Modernization Act cover this very well.
