Citations and OR
editUser:74.244.40.129, I've reverted your edit regarding the number of supernovae found by this group as the source cited does not support your number (200). If you have another published source (even a print reference from one of your local Georgia newspapers) you can cite it to make the change. But the number needs to be published by a third party not affiliated with the observatory to be accepted here. See WP:CITE
Using the same criteria I'm not reverting your other edit since I can't recall which reference I used when I made the edit and I failed to footnote my addition. So my addition might be considered WP:OR until I can prove it otherwise. Regards.Trilobitealive (talk) 15:36, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Proof of number of discoveries provided. The link to notice of discovery by Moore will be restored once I have time to list all significant discoveries of Puckett Observatory.Cometwatch (talk) 23:12, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
Is Puckett really an amateur at this point?
editAt what point in an astronomer's career do encyclopedists drop the term 'amateur' from their description?Trilobitealive (talk) 00:12, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
- Once they get hired as a professional astronomer. I don't think the term 'amateur astronomer' is pejorative, but it may be helpful to label Puckett a dedicated amateur astronomer.—RJH (talk) 00:22, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
- So by strict definition he remains 'amateur'; I'll not tamper with it one way or the other right now but will see if I can find some more 2nd party references which can clarify. Thanks.Trilobitealive (talk) 01:35, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Coordinates
editThe exact address of the observatory appears to be deliberately hidden on their website; no doubt for good reasons. Accordingly, I've used the nearest known town as the best available coordinates. -Arb. (talk) 13:23, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
volunteers
editI was asked to look in by Arb. WP never includes a list of members of an organization--unless, in fact , all the members are by our guidelines or practices notable enough for WP articles, as the National Academy of Science or the UK House of Commons. This is an encyclopedia, not a directory. We include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the subject and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia, not what might be of interest to the members or their friends & associates. Organizations have websites, which can include this information. WP articles give their website, which is sufficient. DGG ( talk ) 02:22, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
Lacks notability
editThis article lacks any 3rd party sources establishing notability (reliable sources covering Puckett Observatory). I have added a notability tag. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 22:42, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
More info on Puckett
editI would add (with references and more details): "Puckett founded Diffraction Limited which was bought by Diffraction (Canada). The acquisition also included astronomy camera manufacturer Santa Barbara Instrument Group (SBIG)." For amateur astronomers, this would sum up what happened to Puckett, his company, and SBIG. Any comments? Am I correct in facts? Charles Juvon (talk) 17:18, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
