Should this page be moved to Puffing Billy train line, Melbourne to bring it in line with the other Melbourne train lines? (See Template:MelbourneTrainLines). Hypernovean 13:36, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Its proper name is Puffing Billy Railway, so it should be a variation on that - David Gerard 14:04, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)
So howsabout Puffing Billy Railway, Melbourne? Hypernovean 23:19, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Sounds OK to me. OTOH, it doesn't really fit in with the others (it's not a commuter line) ... - David Gerard 23:38, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Done, and done. I just think it's important to have the place name in the title with articles like this. Hypernovean 05:47, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Fine by me. BTW, User:Redcountess and I visited Melbourne in April, went on PB and got a huge number of photos ... we will have something to add to this one soon - David Gerard 12:06, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Is it appropriate to describe Staff and Ticket safeworking, and on-board conductors as being specific to the VR era when both are still in place in Victoria? (staff and ticketing operates on parts of the Hurstbridge line, possibly others, and V/Line and Stony Point services still have conductors.) 203.45.12.120 17:59, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Clerk

edit

Why is having the pronunciation of clerk important in this article? --203.220.171.94 (talk) 13:04, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Because it is pronounced "clerk" in some parts of the world and often by the younger generations of Australians, so it is giving people a true understanding of the situation.--Supt. of Printing (talk) 21:16, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Curves & Speeds

edit

What is the radius of the sharp curve on this and the other three Victoria Narrow Gauge lines? Tabletop (talk) 11:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The sharpest curves on the PB railway were 3 chains or 198 feet radius (I believe curves at the site of the landslide may now be sharper), however the sharpest curves on any VRNG line were 2 chains, or 132 feet radius. --Michael Johnson (talk) 00:50, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The maxiumum speed is speed of 24 km/h (15 mph), ----MountVic127 (talk) 08:24, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Trainloads?

edit

What might the heaviest train load that could be hauled around these 2 or 3 chain radius curves? Tabletop (talk) 10:32, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

120 tons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Supt. of Printing (talkcontribs) 10:09, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Robert Whitehead

edit

I'm surprised there is no mention of Robert Whitehead in the article. While it is clearly a shameful incident that does not reflect well on the railway, it is a major news item directly connected to the railway. This has been covered extensively in the press in Australia and around the world. It seems relevant to the article, as it is intertwined with the history of the railway's preservation. Thoughts? Railfan23 (talk) 05:56, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Grassynoel (talk) 16:20, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I disagree, even though there is a mention now, I don't see the need. There have been many major news items directly connected to the railway over the years and many individuals who have had a major impact on the railway (mostly for the good), but most of these aren't individually covered by the article, so why should one very negative incident by covered when many very good ones aren't? Merge minor stations?

edit

For example, Selby clearly doesn't need to be it's own article. The photos should all just be put in a gallery here and for notable minor stations such as Nobelius Siding maybe have a small description. MarkiPoli (talk) 22:00, 5 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
