SUGGESTION: This article misses the material in C.D. Ginsburg's Introduction to the Massoretico-Critical Edition of the Hebrew Bible (London 1897, reprinted by Ktav 1966), available for free on the internet in a number of places including: https://archive.org/details/IntroductionToTheMasoretico-criticalEditionOfTheHebrewBible01/page/n331 On pages 318-334, Ginsburg expounds in some detail on "The Fifteen Extraordinary Points" and provides the folkloric explanation - mostly from Sifre and mostly attaching some hidden meaning to the "stigmatized words" - as well as Ginsburg's more scientific theory - generally that the words are problematic, involving some defect in spelling or grammar or even doubts if the words belong in the text. Also, that a very important ms, the St. Petersburg Prophets Codex of 916, has different words dotted this way. No hard feelings. Sussmanbern (talk) 17:37, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
