Hi there ---
Notes from a friend trying to find out about this company. Will continue here; some people can help; then can add history profile from speculative news and sources... and come up with some reiable info.
Company product seems good; though digging about the company; seems hazy. Please read 15 min of digging below. Thanks.

2010 - 2014 Qihoo 360 Loses In Court Again - Yesterday, China’s Qihoo 360 took another blow from the country’s legal system: the Supreme People’s Court has rejected Qihoo’s appeal of the initial verdict of a Tencent lawsuit against Qihoo for unfair competition, and has ordered Qihoo to pay Tencent a sum of RMB 5 million (about $800,000). The news comes at an interesting time, having been released on the same day that Chinese security firm Qihoo 360’s US$400 million investment in a joint venture with Coolpad was confirmed. Qihoo has previously been accused of misleading users in its own ways, and to some this news may suggest that the new Qihoo-Coolpad joint venture is not to be trusted.

However, controversy has dogged Qihoo for years. In February 2012 all of its products were kicked off iTunes and a year later the Chinese government slapped the firm with an official warning after alleging unfair competition.

One of Tencent’s products is a popular instant messenger application — QQ IM. Qihoo is a leading Chinese Internet security software provider. Tencent offers security services through QQ Doctor to QQ IM users. In 2010, Qihoo launched a competing security software to QQ IM users — 360 Guard, which blocked QQ IM’s pop-up ads. Qihoo marketed 360 as a software to protect QQ users from Tencent’s unauthorized access to their personal data.
4. notes from link [7] Citron explores today a company with many similarities, Qihoo 360 (NYSE:QIHU). We estimate that it is headed to $5 per share, more than 75% below its current trading range.
5. notes from link [8]
May 2015 Chinese antivirus company Qihoo 360 said it would stop taking part in tests conducted by three major antivirus labs that had accused the company of trying to manipulate the testing process.
In a statement, Qihoo denied that it had shipped a different version of its security software to the testing companies than the one supplied to its customers.
The spat began when the testing companies, AV-Comparatives of Austria, Germany’s AV-Test and Virus Bulletin of the UK said in a statement that the version of its software that Qihoo provided for testing uses an antivirus engine licensed from Bitdefender, while the version shipped to consumers uses Qihoo’s own QVM engine.
That 'would provide a considerably lower level of protection and a higher likelihood of false positives”, the companies said.'

WoSign, StartCom and Mozilla
editI added some prose summarising Mozilla's own summary of the state-of-play in this episode in the generally unsavoury history of PKI as an industry. I've provided only one cite: Mozilla's own document, containing the criticisms I say they make, as well as the threats they are uttering. I think that's enough for now; but there's plenty more secondary sources.
Qihoo 360 is a big company, and their new subsidiary WoSign is a small part of their business. But unfortunately neither Qihoo nor WoSign have been upfront about this chain of acquisitions, as is required for all browser-trusted CAs.
You could say that Mozilla document is a primary source; but if you read the discussions in Google Groups: e.g. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mozilla.dev.security.policy/0pqpLJ_lCJQ, you will see that the Mozilla document is a pretty fair summary of the discussions that have been going on over what has been going on - and so I claim that it's secondary, because it's a well-informed summary of discussions that have been taking place in various other online forums (mainly Google Groups).
They may well be badly-expressed (go ahead and improve!), but I think all my remarks can be backed-up with remarks from Mozilla reps in that document.
NOTE: there are allegations online that both Qihoo 360 and WoSign have a history of uttering legal threats against people who criticise them. I have no idea whether these allegations are true. I think there is much more of interest in this matter, but I suggest proceeding with caution, and being especially scrupulous about citing and sources.
NOTE: that document I cited could disappear: I think that when Mozilla update it, it gets a new URL. How can I get a permalink for a GD document, that will survive the unpublishing of the document by its owner?
The "History" sector is unclear about things that happened before 2012
editFor what I know, Qihoo 360 is founded long before 2012. In my memory the first icon they used with 360 Safeguard is a Swiss army knife icon painted green... --111.163.122.52 (talk) 13:13, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
