Translation of particularly challenging terms

Care should be given to some the French translation into English of some specific concepts. Here is a non exhaustive list:

• "salaire à la qualification personnelle"
  • "salaire" best translated as wage in English
  • "qualification personnelle" as personal competency?

• "salaire à vie"
  • "salary for life" Monde Diplo and Wiki.p2p and Frederickson's medium article
  • "lifelong salary" e.g. Dennis Riches' article and usul's video translation.
  • "lifetime salary" there Ameur-ZaÏmèche or in Preda et al. However this term may convey a wrong idea as it is often used to refer to the sum of all salaries during one's lifetime... So I would advocate
  • Despite previous citations of translations, "lifelong wage" probably more relatable than the previous ones, since wage is a better of "salaire" in that context...

• "cotisations sociales"
  • (employers') social (security) contributions
  • payroll deductions or payroll deduction plan - found but quite negative and administrative a term, not conveying the original idea of "cotisations"

• "les retraités"
  • retired people
  • retired workers (stress than not working anymore..)
  • pensioner (UK-specific)
