Battle honours

edit

Some of the honours are marked with a double cross. Nowhere is there a footnote describing what this indicates as far as I can tell. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.137.20.57 (talk) 14:01, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

More Research Required

edit

The section on "Important Engagements" needs fixing, after all WWI and WWII were not engagements but wars containing many engagements. brill 14:19, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Most of them could probably just be replaced by a list of the unit's battle honours. Cjrother 18:25, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Modern operations

edit

The article states: "Modern operations include Cambodia, Sierra Leone, the Balkans, Middle East and Afghanistan."

I was not aware that any militia units have been mobalised since WW2. Is the article perhaps refering to individual volunteers? I will probably change this if no one objects. Cjrother 18:25, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

AFAIK, they haven't; whoever added this probably means that personnel from that unit have been tasked on the applicable missions -- which could easily be said of almost every unit in the Primary Reserve. Chop away. --SigPig 19:52, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've removed that sentence. Cjrother 20:13, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Historical list of alliances

edit

The QOR's Regimental Alliances are a source of great pride. There should be a listing of historical alliances as well, which I had put in but an anonymous edit removed. I would like the other contributors to weigh in.

Perhaps I could seperate the historical and current alliances and make it more clear that way. Ng.j 19:17, 17 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Parachute

edit

"Several reserve units have soldiers who have completed the Canadian Army's Basic Parachutist Course, but none can bring Parachute Instructors, Jumpmasters, parachute riggers, LZ/DZ controllers, and aerial delivery specialists together like the QOR."

Can the statement be qualified? It seems more of an advertisement than a definition.

"Members of the QOR have also been sent on the arduous Patrol Pathfinder Course." This statement also gives the impression that the Patrol Pathfinder course is not open to members of the CF outside of the QOR. Most CF regiments can claim to have members with this course.

The entire "Role" entry is more of a self-congratulatory brag than a definition. Has the QOR has been given a different role from any other Reserve Infantry Regiment in doctrine? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 131.137.245.199 (talk) 05:57, 31 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

"Most CF regiments can claim to have members with this course."
Entirely untrue. Only the three Regular Force units, plus CANSOFCOM have PPFs.

Fair use rationale for Image:Capbadge2.png

edit

Image:Capbadge2.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada

edit

It is "The" Queen's Own Rifles of Canada because it is "The" Queen. Please do not change the name. Ng.j 18:18, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

That is not the correct reason - ALL infantry regiments with a couple of exceptions carry "The" as part of their title. They are not "The 48th Highlanders of Canada" because it is "The" number 48...68.145.179.81 (talk) 14:35, 6 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

List of Commanding Officers

edit

I'm interested in adding a section with the CO line since 1860. This would be drawn primarly from W.T. Bernard's official history. Would that be a useful contribution? Calydon (talk) 07:29, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Red Tilson

edit

I added Red Tilson to the list, namesake of the Red Tilson Trophy. His rank was lance corporal according to Veterans Affairs Canada. I'm unsure where to list that in descending order of precedence, then rank. Thanks for any help. Flibirigit (talk) 08:54, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Should this be changed to King with the accession of HM Charles III?

No. The regiment was named after Queen Victoria, and they remained "Queen's Own Rifles" throughout the reigns of Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII and George VI. Similarly the King's Own Rifles (in Moose Jaw) and the King's Own Calgary Regiment didn't change when Elizabeth II acceded. Indefatigable (talk) 02:28, 29 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
