RfC Converting Multiseason
editThis is no longer a single season show making the "(2018 TV series)" article tag confusing. I believe it should it be revised to "Queer Eye (2nd Casting)" since it is a reboot but not "diminished". This will allow for auxiliary articles (e.g. List of Queer Eye episodes for the 1st Casting) to be easily created and referenced.
Edit: Here is a reference for additional dates for the second season. Lassitergregg (talk) 02:49, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

Name change
editObviously this series has progressed beyond 2018, perhaps prompting a name change? Readers seeing the title might think this doesn't reflect the currently-airing show, today in 2020. The article name "Queer Eye" is used for the old show, which only had 5 seasons. This show is set to air 6 seasons; additionally its audience and impact is likely much larger. In terms of the 'primary topic', this show takes the cake. So what should the old series be named? Something like "Queer Eye (2003-07 TV series)" or "Queer Eye (2003 TV series)", though the natural disambiguation, usually preferred, would be "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy", the title of that series for the first two seasons. Media like this article use that title to distinguish the name naturally from the new show. My best suggestion is changing this article name to Queer Eye, and the old show to Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. ɱ (talk) 00:29, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- With no objections, I am going to request the move. ɱ (talk) 18:35, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Requested move 19 May 2020
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: disambiguate the 2003 TV series article. (closed by non-admin page mover) GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 18:41, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
– Per this talk discussion, this is now the primary topic, reaching a much wider and larger audience, and set to have more seasons. ɱ (talk) 18:34, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 00:17, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Procedural oppose speedy rename This is a primary topic change, and I see no evidence of a discussion at either talk page. I only see a statement without any discussion evident -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 21:11, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- @GeoffreyT2000: and IP: Sorry, but I requested the name change 44 days ago, with 0 input. Clearly nobody else cares here, so no, it's an uncontroversial change right now. ɱ (talk) 00:41, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- It is a primary topic change. The notice was posted to only one of the two talk pages, so therefore did not inform anyone watchlisting only the other talk page (Talk:Queer Eye (potentially Talk:Queer Eye for the Straight Guy should this move go through)). Talk pages are not monitored all that well, so lack of participation is not evidence of non-controversiality, especially on talk pages that have low activity, as is the case for the talk page you posted your notice to (this talk page (Talk:Queer Eye (2018 TV series)). Since it isn't in the middle of a TV season, this would lower activity on TV series articles in general (last episode noted on the article being in November 2019... so we're half a year since a new episode, definitely the doldrums). Did you post notices to the wikipropject talk pages of the affected wikiprojects? WPLGBT, WPUSA, WPTV, WPFASHION ? There's also the possibility of WP:RECENTISM affecting perceptions of primarity -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 02:49, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- It has clear primary status. You set the idea that it's recent, I didn't here. You're creating a strawman argument. I think anyone interested in the show/article would watch the talk page, so with 44 days of nothing, it's clear something needed to happen to progress it. ɱ (talk) 04:38, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- FWIW I oppose moving the 2018 TV series, but think the original TV series should be moved. Instead Queer Eye should become a franchise article or a disambiguation / set index page. There several TV series in the franchise (not just these two), a franchise landing point would be good, as there are also other ancillary materials besides TV shows -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 02:58, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, good point. ɱ (talk) 04:35, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

- Oppose first, move 2nd to Queer Eye (2003 TV series) to disambiguate all. Queer Eye should be a simple DAB and eventually a franchise page (WP:CONCEPTDAB) with Special:WhatLinksHere/Queer Eye fully-reviewed for accuracy. I don't think that general perception holds that the new series is primary over the original (that'd be very unusual). Primary swaps as proposed are dangerous as they break internal wikilinking and also links coming in from the outside. -- Netoholic @ 03:25, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Of course everyone decides to weigh in now. Netholic, we can fix the internal links, and most people would just carelessly link to Queer Eye, requiring just as many future corrections. Why do you oppose the first move, besides that you think it isn't primary? It is newer, is on Netflix with an enormous and diverse audience, much more an element of mainstream popculture than the original. Also, "2018" is incredibly misleading, when I first viewed the article I thought it could be another country's spinoff. "Queer Eye" or "Queer Eye (2018-20/present)" seems to make more sense. ɱ (talk) 04:27, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- I was alerted here only due to its listing on WP:Requested moves. Don't read anything into my "weigh in" - more discussion and input is always welcome. I think you're confusing WP:PRIMARYTOPIC with simple "popularity". Many shows which are in active circulation are momentarily popular - but you have to acknowledge that popularity is significantly enhanced by the history of the franchise. The original series entered the popular culture quite strongly, and that is what led to so many spin-offs and now this reboot. I'm not even confident that most people would perceive the 2018 series as anything but a continuation of the 2003 one, just on a new network. I think we serve readers and editors best if Queer Eye is a DAB/franchise page rather than having either series be at that primary. WP:NCTVUS covers naming in this case, and we by convention only use the premiere year. WP:NCTV#Media franchise also documents a common practice to have a franchise article be at primary. -- Netoholic @ 05:07, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Well what do you think about this article's title being misleading, not as fully informative as it should be? I doubt many people know the year this premiered off the top of their heads, and we shouldn't expect them to. It's why articles on the old WTC or Penn Station give the complete date range. ɱ (talk) 05:52, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- I think if you want to change to using year ranges, the archives of WT:NCTV probably have some prior discussions about that and it was decided against. As for your original title change, I agree that a lot of people would know the 2003 series as "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and perhaps would even think that's the franchise name. I think naming it using the year would be the best option though (making both new and old series names consistent. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy can and should remain pointing at the 2003 series article. -- Netoholic @ 06:03, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- That's not really complete reasoning to oppose a date range. I think it warrants further discussion. ɱ (talk) 16:36, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

- Oppose first, but move 2nd to Queer Eye (2003 TV series). Per WP:CONCEPTDAB, Queer Eye should be a DAB for the time being and a franchise article in the future. — YoungForever(talk) 05:35, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

- Support Netoholic's alt proposal. Seeing Queer Eye#International adaptations it would be logical at the the base name should eventually be a franchise page. --Gonnym (talk) 14:38, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose first, support move 2nd to Queer Eye (2003 TV series), per above. Agree that "Queer Eye" could host a franchise page that spans both series. -- Wikipedical (talk) 18:03, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Award nomination
editLead section seems heavily promotional/suggestion
editI would want to do this myself but I honestly do not know enough about this show nor have the writing ability to synthesize the information, but the lead of this article seems heavily promotional and/or vague. What is this show about? It just says that this is a reboot, there are experts (called the "Fab Five"?), and that it is award-winning. Shouldn't there be a bit about what the show actually is in this section? Is this a reality TV show? What happens during an episode? I apologize if I am misunderstanding something about this show or something, but I feel this is important information to include in the lead that is normally included. Popperman99 (talk)
What is the program actually about?
editI came to this page without any idea what the program is about. And to be honest, after reading most of the text I still don't actually know what it is about....

Currently no mention at all of the original 2003 serries
editOddly, there is no mention of the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (2003). This article (2018) is about the reboot of that 2003 format. Please add some details. Thanks. Anna (talk) 23:25, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
