QTAM was not based on BTAM
editBTAM and QTAM were independent access methods, with separate code bases. Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 10:52, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
RJE?
editThere were no remote job entry facilities using QTAM. Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 20:19, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- I based this on the "preliiminary specifications" reference that listed "job processing" along with inquiry and data collection. Maybe it was never implemented; a more recent manual would be helpful Peter Flass (talk) 22:13, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- I assume that you are referring to C28-6553-2, IBM Operating System/360 Telecommunications: Preliminary Specifications, which is not specific to QTAM. As I read it, that manual was claiming that you could write such an application using QTAM, not that IBM was writing one. I checked the QTAM manuals on bitsavers and couldn't find any reference in them. Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 20:20, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- I never used QTAM, so I may be wrong about this, but yes, the manual you refer to, beginning on page 57 "REMOTE STACKED JOB APPLICATION" says:
The QTAM message control task is assembled by the user with one or more LPS's [Line Procedure Specification macros] capable of routing stacked job input to the processing queue which the user has defined. No special processing is required other than translating and routing. The processing queue has no special attributes other than its name. No special processing of job output is required other than translating; however, the user may supply any functions that he desires within the SEND LPS structure.
- There were also special, IBM-supplied, I guess, reader/interpreters and output writers to route the job data. Sorry for the short previous reply but I was trying to both read the PDF and type text on my iPad. Peter Flass (talk) 23:42, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, looking at a 1968 manual it looks like RJE was dropped or more likely never implemented. Peter Flass (talk) 02:53, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
QTAM vs. TCAM
editAnyone know what was the reason for introducing TCAM to replace QTAM? Peter Flass (talk) 23:44, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
