2 FIS dates, etc.
editYou added the note to the page "BTW, Hatch (p. 203) mentions nothing about 2 FIS having been at Claresholm" and you are correct. that statement and the one on the initial opening date were in the article prior to my involvement. Should we delete it or mark that it need citation. I am still fairly new to the whole editing thing, but I think this is a good endeavor. Your opinion? Mech1949 (talk) 15:23, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- I had originally added the date content from http://www.bombercommandmuseum.ca/bcatpvulcan.html. I am now not confident about this information. There are a couple of sources that mention that 2 FIS moved from Claresholm, but I'm not sure that these sources are particularly reliable either. For now, I think we should go with the most reliable source, which is Hatch, who says nothing about 2 FIS being at Claresholm. I would say, remove the content re: Clareholm for now until we find a more reliable source. The page on RCAF Station Claresholm may need to be modified as well. I'm sure there are good sources somewhere that can confirm all this. Welcome, BTW, to Wikipedia. I've been here for many years and am still learning about it. Bottom line is that anything we add or change should have reliable sources.- BC talk to me 16:01, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for the advise and guidance. I am working to try and expand a lot of these pages. Thanks again. Mech1949 (talk) 16:34, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- Glad you can spruce up these articles. They've been laying dormant for quite a while. BC talk to me 16:40, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

- Found an excelent source. The RCAF Organization Order number 204. This order details the Formation of No. 2 Flying Instructor School effective 3 August 1942. the order can be accessed on the web at http://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.lac_reel_c12325/457?r=0&s=6 , how would it be best to cite this, primary source.Mech1949 (talk) 23:21, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- Very nice. I think this source is fine to use even though it's primary. See WP:PSTS. As long as we use it "with care" and there is no interpretation of the content. Citing this source would be the same as with any source (see wp:citing sources). Now, if we can find more details about Claresholm since the Claresholm page refers to 2 FIS being there for a while. There are at least two non-primary sources that allude to this and, as I mentioned, I'm not sure these sources are correct.- BC talk to me 00:52, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- I have contacted Bruce Forsyth at http://militarybruce.com/claresholm-industrial-airport-has-rich-military-past/#comment-50205 to see if he knows his source. I almost wonder if 2 FIS was starting to come together even prior to the formal order. Trenton could have sent out a recce party to start getting things together and await the formal notice. This is pure speculation on my part, but might explain some of the confusion. Mech1949 (talk) 01:11, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- Believe it or not, Bruce has used Wikipedia for some of his information. This is happening a lot now with Wikipedia. Sort of an endless circle of information, and stuff gets lost in translation. And further to the citation format, the rule is to use the same format for all citations in an article. I.e. the same format that was originally used. BC talk to me 05:53, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

So the plot thickens. I checked out the ORB for Claresholm (No. 15 SFTS) and what do you know though not yet established the first mention of No. 2 FIS is 27 April 1942 in Claresholm. http://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.lac_reel_c12350/828?r=0&s=1 Mech1949 (talk) 15:05, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
