I would be disappointed if this article were merged with Hippolyte Taine as has been suggested. The Taine article is already quite long, and is specifically biographical--it does not present a concise depiction of Taine's ideas. But more importantly, Race, milieu, and moment is a stub that serves a useful function and has an opportunity to grow. Race, milieu, and moment represent a distinctive and influential force in the history of 19th-century literary criticism apart from Taine's use of those terms. A reader might easily come across the terms and wonder what they mean, and would be confused if redirected to Taine's biography, which would not be what she was looking for. An exposition of the particular theory those terms name would be far more useful to her. Right now, that exposition is still slim, but the stub was created less than 12 hours ago and certainly should be given some time to develop. Chick Bowen 13:56, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

The Hippolyte Taine article is incomplete without Taine's ideas. I added a Main article:... heading to the respective text, so readers will find their way here. Race and moment have other connotations in English than what they had for Taine in French: the present title presents an obstacle that needs to be surmounted by explication. --Wetman 14:56, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

Point taken--I'll add an explanation shortly. Incidentally, this article was created as part of the Missing articles WikiProject, which means that another encyclopedia (in this case the current edition of Britannica), has an article with the same name. Chick Bowen 15:35, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
