Awful sentence
editI don't know why this article is protected, but can someone correct the mistakes in the line "His father immigrated from Mexico City with his family in the early 1970s,[30][31] while his mother mother is from Lima, Peru, and is of Serbian, Italian and Greek ancestry." i.e. change the word "immigrated" to "emigrated" and delete one "mother"... 24.69.71.254 (talk) 04:27, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
- Seems reasonable, so done. In future, please put new discussion threads at the bottom of this page (click on the "new section" tab at the top of the page). Franamax (talk) 05:23, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Criticism section
editThis section could probably use some references- I know it's true, but some specifically referenced critics would be nice. --Scimitar 17:27, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
BLPN
editThere a thread at the WP:BLPN with a person claiming to be a players father complaining that this comment is not correct
At the age of 13, he was prevented from participating in a showcase tournament in Québec because parents of other hockey players refused to financially support the team with Torres on it.
Personally its dubious to say the least and unsupported by other citations, I would remove it but regular editors here may have other thoughts, please comment here or at the BLPN here. Thanks, Off2riorob (talk) 01:15, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- Suppose we assume that some other parents did threaten to withhold financial support, as the source says. Was it because of racism? Because of local politics? Because Juan used the "F" word? Because Juan was unapologetic to the coach? The source gives no clue; the pertinent sentence in the source is a one-sentence paragraph bereft of any further explanation. So, I agree that the sentence has very little encyclopedic value. It's like saying in a biography that the subject got into a fistfight at the age of 13, without saying with whom or why. This Wikipedia article now says that, "Growing up as an ethnic minority, he was often given a hard time during his young hockey career." This quoted sentence is well-sourced and should not be removed. But the sentence about the tournament in Quebec doesn't seem to add much, and is potentially misleading. I'll tentatively remove the latter sentence.Anythingyouwant (talk) 03:22, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, support for that. Off2riorob (talk) 11:50, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Canucks photo, plz
editCould someone pleasssse get a photo of Torres in a Canuck uniform to use for the main photo of the page. Withoat a doat, that would help the page's presentation. Thank ya. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.1.16.182 (talk) 03:09, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
Suspensions
editThere are some discrepancies concerning his suspensions in this article. First, within the article, the intro says he served the 3rd longest suspension in history, while later it says he was tied for the 2nd longest. Additionally, the link from the intro to the page about hockey suspensions clearly lists his 25 game suspension lower than 3rd place (5th, maybe?). Throw on top of that the fact that it was reduced to 21 games makes it near the 10th longest in history.
Furthermore, due to his history of 'dirty play' and repeated suspensions, it might be worthy of its own section. Onzie9 (talk) 15:25, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
