Image:Raid on bungeling bay.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Gameplay

Someone with better wiki-fu can put this on the main page if they want. It's accurate to the best of my memory.

On the C64 version, there were 6 enemy factories to destroy. Destroying the first one was fairly easy, and could be accomplished with just the initial load of bombs, if dropped accurately. Further factories required additional bombs, and could repair while you were not bombing, requiring you to quickly reload and get back to it. The only damage indication you had was whether smoke was coming out of the smoke stacks, at roughly half damage.

The Bungeling technology advanced according to the number of factories you destroyed. Everything is fairly laid back if you haven't blown anything up, but once you destroy one factory, things get a little more dangerous, and the battleship's construction progresses more rapidly. Enemy jets start appearing. After the third factory is destroyed, the enemy gains the use of missiles which are capable of following you, and you can try to shoot them, or outmaneuver them long enough to outrun their fuel supply (often picking up more in the process).

The battleship can be bombed while it is under construction, delaying it, but it cannot be destroyed before it has been completed and launched. It has 3 heat-seeking missile launchers, even if you have not yet destroyed 3 factories, and often has planes protecting it. If left to itself, it will destroy your carrier, which is your only source of repairs; your helicopter can take a few hits before you lose control and crash, hopefully hitting one of their factories to damage it. There is a "secret" landing zone where you can reload your bombs, but not repair, and you'll have to clear out enemies to safely land and rearm. (It's at the end of one of the two runways that enemy planes take off from.) Also, from time to time your carrier will come under attack by planes, which you will have to return and destroy before they sink it. It is unclear to me whether the carrier can repair, or if the planes become more powerful over time.

For later factories, you will have to reload multiple times and come back. There are tanks and gun emplacements and missile launchers, as well as planes defending them; you'll have to clear the area of enemies to make it safe to bomb, or you can try doing bombing passes and hope for the best. When there is only one factory left, enemies are produced very rapidly, making bombing passes more attractive, but you'll still have to do some clearing before attempting or you'll be shot down.

One strategy I often employed was to destroy only 2 factories to hurry up the battleship's construction and not have to deal with enemy heat seekers while destroying it, then leave for last the factory with the airbase you can rearm from.

You had a limited number of spare helicopters, which would all be lost if the carrier was lost.

Also, though the map could scroll and wrap around in both orthogonal directions (a toroid), you were not on a planetoid, you were in a bay, hence the name of the game.
