Did You Know A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on September 5, 2015.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that Ralph Townsend was described as "the most adamant and extreme of the voices in America defending Japanese policy"?
Current status: Former featured article candidate, current good article

Why aren't this article's dates formatted in the American style?

edit

Per MOS:DATETIES shouldn't this biographical article on an American person say he was born "November 27, 1900" rather than "27 November 1900", etc.? Hijiri 88 (やや) 15:48, 15 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Are you still going to review this, The Rambling Man? It's been over 2 weeks..... Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:26, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Comments very interesting, and well written.

  • Avoid single-sentence paragraphs, like the opening para and last para in the lead, and the penultimate para in the "Advocate of non-interventionism" section and the last para of the Arrest section and last para of the Post-war section.  Done
  • You have a single citation in the lead, which is a little odd. Presumably the information is expanded upon and referenced in the main body and as it's not a quotation, I would remove the lead cite.  Done
  • It's a personal thing, but try to avoid pipelinking to a redirect as you have done for " propaganda organization funded by the Japanese government" which you've piped to "Jikyoku Iinkai" which redirects to "Japanese Committee on Trade and Information".  Done
  • Notable work in the infobox should be in italics. Same comment for "communist takeover of China".  Done
  • "insatiable greed" this is bordering on not being entirely encyclopedic since you're not directly quoting him here.  Done
  • I generally look for why I should pay attention to a particular commentator's opinion, like "Owen Lattimore ", you could introduce him as a scholar of China and Central Asia for instance.  Done
  • "doing advertising work " never keen on "doing".  Done
  • Again, "who seek to crush Japan as a bulwark of capitalism in Asia" this is in need of a quote or it needs to be toned down.  Done
  • Times of India is The Times of India.  Done
  • "1937–1941" year ranges like this usually don't repeat the century so 1937–41.  Done
  • "Then on 28 January" not sure you need the "Then..."  Done
  • No need to pipelink Japanese Committee on Trade and Information to redirect back to itself.  Done
  • Nye image caption is a complete sentence so needs a period.  Done
  • "US government" vs "U.S. entry" - be consistent.  Done
  • the Washington Post should be The Washington Post.  Done
  • Remove the See also links that are already linked in the article.  Done
  • Where are all the works referenced? As pretty much none of them have articles or ISBNs, how can I verify them?  Done
  • Are all those external links really required?  Done

I enjoyed the article immensely, it's certainly very close to good article quality, so I'll place it on hold for a while to see if we can address some of the comments. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:38, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
