I think the drug suspension should be mentioned in the lead. Maybe end the first sentence after 2012, then make it part of the sentence about the Venezuelan Summer League.

Change the first two sentences to “Suárez spent most of his professional baseball career as a starting pitcher before being used as a long reliever and closer by the Phillies in 2021.”
