No longer an island?
editLooking up Rangitata Island in LINZ it is listed as a locality [1], like Geraldine Downs [2]. Stewart Island/Rakiura and Inch Clutha on the other hand are listed as islands.[3][4] Looking in Google Earth I see a dry riverbed for some sections of the southern branch, farmland in others, though the photo may have been at a time of low flow. The NZTopoOnline map only shows the northern branch, and a DOC report has a possible mention "now diverted south and mid branches." [5]. I've looked unsuccessfully for references in Google/NZ Herald, I'd like to ask for more references to prove conclusively one way or the other. XLerate (talk) 04:45, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
