Disputed then names in succession box

User:KittenKlub added the names of the two candidates after "disputed" in the succession box. What do people think? One problem is that having both names necessarily that one must be listed first, and that could be contraversial. What do people thing? Sourcing for series of claimed miracles

The article has a series of claims of miracles, and they are all sourced to a bunch of Dutch documents. How reliable are they? Can someone who reads Dutch please check the reliability or lack thereof of those documents? Ngchen (talk) 17:34, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I attended the funeral and personally witnessed (and took several pictures of) the triple rainbow, which appeared in a clear blue sky at exactly the moment that the funeral pyre was lit. I also saw the ejection of an object from the heart-level window of the funeral chöten (stupa) and, while I cannot personally attest that it was His Holiness' eye, heart and tongue, I can say that it was immediately regarded with great awe and wonder by all those close to the chöten at the time, and that it was quickly identified as the fused eye, heart and tongue by several who were close enough to see it in detail. I am interested in knowing where and what 16th Karmapa Lama did on Jan 1st 1981. Any Lamas who were close to 16th Karmapa Lama at that time can help to remember? Did 16th Karmapa Lama give any empowerment that day? Was he in U.S. that day?

Hair-cutting

The article says: "He received his hair cutting ceremony at age thirteen from Thubten Gyatso, 13th Dalai Lama."

However, this is impossible as the Karmapa would not have been 13 until 1937 and the 13th Dalai Lama died in 1933. The link for the source is dead, so I am not sure whether this is simply a typo, however it clearly cannot remain in the article as it is. Anyone know anything about this? Term "Living Buddha"

I question whether the term, "Living Buddha" be used as the Tulku Wikipedia article states:

The Chinese word for tulku is huófó (活佛), which literally means "living Buddha" and is sometimes used to mean tulku although this is rare outside of Chinese sources. Also, modern Chinese sources typically refer to a young incarnation of a (presumably male) tulku as a "soul boy" (Chinese: 靈童; pinyin: língtóng). However, according to the Dalai Lama, "this is wrong. Tibetan Buddhism recognises no such thing."[2] Also, in interviews that he has given, the Dalai Lama has frequently dismissed the notion of 'living Buddha' referring to it as "nonsense".[3]

With the Chinese translation of the term Tulku seemingly being the problem (and the adoption of this by the press) I checked on Rigpa Wiki (a Wiki encyclopedia solely for Buddhism) and offer two relevant links from Rigpa that may be of use to help to revise this article and perhaps to start an article on the problematic 'Living Buddha' phrase:

Recognition of the 16th Karmapa

Dear friends, the statement that the 15th Karmapa's attendant out of fear did hide the prophecy letter has no historic document backing it (or if so which?) Contarryly many texts state that the 15th Karmapa told him only to show the letter when the time was right (among them Tulku Urgyen: Blazing Splendor). Situ Rinpoche on top lived in Kham and the attendant first in Trsurphu and took the letter to his retreat in Golok, far away. Filling out this page--many books available to reference

I just edited the intro as part of an overall effort to accurately represent the 16th Karmapa's historical impact on modern day Tibetan Buddhism. I'm surprised that the numerous accounts of his life in books, film and otherwise are not being taken advantage of. Many people have invested their resources into the Karmapa controversy page while this one seems to have fallen by the wayside--besides weak opening I found an obvious grammatical error in the opening paragraph. Perhaps since the 16th Karmapa was so uncontroversial--both "sides" agree on his authority--caused this page not to garner the attention it deserves. Again, there are many books to reference, which are full of intriguing and relevant information that can be poured into Wikipedia. I took an initial stab here and I hope more of you will join in!

Education and Receiving Important Transmissions

The section says: "Rangjung had therefore received all the major teachings of all the major Tibetan Buddhist schools."

I've added a 'citation needed' tag to that, because it's an uncited claim (of course); but also because some of the preceding claims are uncited. I would be interested to know the source for the claim he studied with a senior Nyingma lama, because I would like to know what he studied. Notably, there is no mention of Dzogchen, which is the central Nyingma teaching.

Lu Sheng-yen

Hi everybody, since 12 years I research about the 16th Karmapa's life (seee www.karmapabiographie.de, my site). The name Lu Sheng-yen never came to my eyes. For this I erased the sentence that Lu Sheng-yen was a disciple of Karmapa, I think it was added by Lu Sheng-yen's followers as a kind of PR, which is not admissible.
